Can I list multiple Sitemaps inside one sitemap.xml

Hai.... I am working as SEO Analyst. I face this issue for my Client website. Can I list multiple Sitemaps inside one sitemap.xml. Here I mention sample sitemap structure

http:www.example.com/sitemap.xml - Its main sitemap

http:www.example.com/en/in/ --this is the actual site url

http:www.example.com/sitemaps/loc/en/in/sitemap1.xml

Why they Mention sitemaps/loc what is the reason ?? what's happening here If anyone knows, please help me...

    Yes you can put multiple sitemap url in main sitemap.xml file.

    Main sitemap should be at root of the directory and other sitemap can be place at any location or in folder.
    Make sure the url of other sitemaps must be present in the main sitemap.xml file which is placed at the root directory.

    Sure you can do that. Example of my site eCoupon.io. I have a main sitemap at http://ecoupon.io/sitemap_index.xml

    In the main sitemap index, I have 6 child sitemaps like this

    /post-sitemap.xml
    /page-sitemap.xml
    /category-sitemap.xml
    /post_tag-sitemap1.xml
    /post_tag-sitemap2.xml
    /post_tag-sitemap3.xml
