A simple one page website

A friend of mine wants to create a simple one page website for his own private practice that he just opened.

And that the page would basically just talk about his practice, his background and perhaps also have his photo and so forth.

And that he also just wants to start out with a free site for now. And then possibly go the ".com" route somewhere down the road.

What advice would you give him on where he could start? Or what web tools or web hosts he could use, etc?

Thanks!

I would not use a free site because they always have some conditions. Just buy a domain name and get a hosting account there is site a2hosting.com I heard it has great service.

    Hi Dan.

You say he has a new practice. I assume he's a doctor or in some other medical field. I would strongly recommend paying for a domain name and hosting for a few reasons.

    1. Credibility. If I was reading the site of a doctor and I saw it was a free site, I would question his credibility if I didn't know him.

    2. If he couldn't afford hosting and a domain name, I would wonder why not, unless he wasn't successful. The cost is minimal. If you or he can't create the site yourself, my webmaster could certainly help and it wouldn't cost a lot.

    3. It's unwise to start with a free site if you plan to change to a paid site later because all the good relationship-building work put into the site and how often it's found in Google can all go down the drain.

In my opinion, start as you mean to go on. Aim high from the start.
Otherwise it seems like he wants to "see how he goes" before investing in his own success.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

I have to wonder what sort of private practice he's opening - hard to imagine a doctor, lawyer, architect or any other professional not listing 'create a well designed web presence' as part of 'opening for business'.

Tell your friend to search google for others working in his field....see what they are putting online. Might be a wakeup call.

Kay, you're so astute. I hadn't even looked at it from that angle but I totally agree with you. I dread to think what sort of private practice it really is. Seems like he's already destined for failure with that attitude.
