Should you write a lot of posts before your blog goes live?

I've been reading advice by expert bloggers that you should
have 40-50 posts before going live (if planning to monetize
your site.) Just wondering if others agree with that advice?

  • Yes I think it helps you to post your blogs regular and it also save your time. You know what you have posted and what you have to post.Preparing proper schedule for posting blogs will not create any confusion.
  • Saying from experience, a regularly updated website ranks better in search. With one of my sites, rankings would improve every time new content was added.

    You don't exactly need 50 posts, but a bare minimum 5 to start with. Then keep posting a new post everyday, or as often as possible, to establish your website as a resource for updated content & information. In the beginning, you should post 1-2 posts daily.

    • Yeah, agree. 50 is a great goal, but get those first 5 up and indexed ASAP. Then worry about the other 50. You can have them all planned out, in the works, etc., but don't get yourself bogged down. You'll always find a reason why you're NOT ready to publish, so publish and then worry about the the other stuff. It's not like you're launching a massive VC funded site that will instantly get hundreds of thousands of hits and you need to maintain a brand image.
  • I think it's advisable to have a couple of posts on your blog before it goes live. What i usually do is that i actually post at least 10 articles on my local server after which i now upload it to my server and add it to Google Webmaster. After about 10 more posts while it's online, i will then apply for Google adsense.

  • I think so yes. It will save you time. Once the blog goes live, you know you have a lot of back up posts to keep your readers coming back to your site when you are having a writer's block.

  • 50 posts seems like a lot, but it's a good plan. All you'll have to do now is post them on a regular basis, and then slowly write (or have the writer you hired write) more pieces so that your "supply" won't run out any time soon. Besides, it's good for SEO anyway. You just need to make sure those blog posts aren't time-sensitive since by the time you'll post them they'll be outdated.
  • Yes. In my opinion, you will have a huge source of blog post, you can post your blogs regularly and save time. Besides, you can put internal link in your blog posts to keep reader staying longer and returning to your website.
  • Regular posting is the key. So having a few posts saved is a good idea. Over the past 10 yrs I've had a few instances where a blog with regular daily posts was getting good ranking, then in few instances when I failed to post an article one day, I've noticed the rankings to slowly deteriorate to variable extent. Learning from that, here's what I do:
    1) write 20-40 posts and save them locally
    2) start creating the blog (graphics, layout etc)
    3) schedule posts for publishing (one per day) for the entire month ahead
    4) continue writing new posts so that there's always a reserve waiting to get published in case I can't create content for a few days

  • 40-50 posts are really good but you don't' need to wait to have 40-50 posts, You can make your website live and keep posting 1/2 blogs every week.

    Try to write blog posts with 1000+ words - really helpful.

    This is what works best for SEO:

    Blog Post Content: 2,500 Words.
    Title Tag: 70 Characters.
    Meta Description: 156 Characters.
    Headlines: 55 Characters (or Six to Seven Words)
    Sub-Heads: Eight to 10 Words (Or Less)
    Sentences: 25 Words or Less.
    Paragraphs: Three Sentences or Less.

    Come back in five years and they'll probably be pumping out 10,000 word posts...
