Do I really need an SSL certificate?

WEB DESIGN

It's for a new website GetJobsHawaii dot com

It's forum style so I get the Google and Firefox warning of unsecured. I know the other sites probably have them. Am I being too cheap? I host with iPage so I have to buy theirs.
About 95.00 for three years.

Do we really need SSL certificate for affiliate marketing ? I had one for my affiliate site and the certificate has expired and the site has gone haywire even though THE SSL certificated has been removed

check out https://letsencrypt.org/ or CloudFlare. they offer Free SSL

Got a free SSL certificate and it expired within 3/4 months and now my site is down even after removing the certificate

That's way too much to pay for a basic cert. I'd switch to a different hosting provider. If it's a WordPress site, look into WPengine.

as of October 2017, Google will start to penalize websites that doesn't have SSL certificate.
Google will flag 2/3rd of the web as unsafe. This means if your website doesn't have an SSL certificate, it will display a 'Not Secure' in the URL bar.

Yes, you need to have SSL certificate for your website especially if you're selling something online.

In the past, you really wouldn't need one if your site wasn't passing user data between the browser and the server. Even if you were selling something, say using PayPal, and you didn't have user accounts on your server, all that sensitive data would be handled on PayPal's SSL. But as Dan stated, it's pretty much a necessity now if you don't want your site flagged by Google as Not Secure.

These days, everyone is installing SSL certificates, should make you rank a bit better it seems, in your case if its required you can always use Cloudflare, its free
