vertical bars and other headaches

Hi guys.
I was reading about a very strong traffic thing that was "easy" to implement.
There was this guy whose blog was very well done, had all the correct stuff but wasn't getting traffic. So his friend looked at it changed his keywords in each post and the blog started to get traffic.
So I tried to do what they said, and I am not sure that I did the right thing.
I will explain what it is below, and then if anyone can tell me if I did it correctly please.
They said that this is what we must do to get ranked for the blogs keywords very quickly - and ranked very highly....
"at the bottom of every post - add 3 keywords - separate them with vertical bars - make them h1 tags - and then have them all link to the home page."
Now that seems to be easy huh?
So I went to my wordpress blog and wanted to put this linking thing onto a lot of my posts and then see if my ranking jumps as they said it would.
But I got stuck. What is a vertical bar? And does it all just go into my TAG section of my post? And what if I simply put in the html address into the tag section? Will it work?
If this guy says that his main keywords jumped from nowhere to page one then it has to be a good idea right?
But it is higher grade for me and I am sure that it is easy when I am shown.
PLEASE HELP.
Rob

    Hey Rob,

He is creating internal links within your blog, using the posts themselves to "push up" your main domain for the given keywords. Internal linking is important, especially if you have internal pages that have a high PR.

At the bottom of every post (still in the post editor window) create a link that is H1 to your main domain using the keywords. Your code will look something like this....

    <h1><a href="http://www.yourdomain.com/">Keyword1 | Keyword2 | Keyword3</a></h1>

An the "verticle line" is usually above the keyboard Enter key when shift is pressed (above /)

You can use the Wordpress WYSIWYG editor to create the links for you or just copy and paste the code I entered above into the HTML editor, either way will work.

Your end result will look like this.... (below your post text)

This sounds really interesting. I'm currently working on building traffic to a blog that I've created so I'm curious as to how much difference working on internal links is likely to make if anyone has much idea. Will it only really be effective if you already have some strong internal links? Or is it something that will help anyway? If it is something likely to make a difference I'll have to start using it as best practice whenever I create a separate post.

I hope it works really well for you Rob and brings in the rankings!
