Easiest way to build a website with no experience

Hi,

I am looking for the easiest way to build a website (outside of hiring someone) that requires no tech ability. Are there templates to use or is Wordpress still the best?

  • Wordpress is the way if you have no HTML skills. If you need it installed or configured you can check my signature.
  • Wordpress is a very easy way to set up a website with little to no technical know-how. There's an incredible community there for it too so if you're stuck with anything it's quite likely that there's been someone else there before you who can help you to solve the issue.

    You can get some absolutely fantastic looking themes either for free or for a (usually) small fee. And with a load of plugins and the like to help to add functionality and aesthetic value you should find it easy to make something great.

    Of course a bit of programming knowledge does go a long way in tweaking Wordpress sites to help you to modify your theme in the way that you want to, but it's still possible to do some great work without.

  • to be honest wordpress and some of the free plugin would do.. The plugin do all the tweaking you need... no programming is needed in truth..

    all in one seo plugin etc...

    You might anna try wix.com. I discovered it while looking for the easiest way to create a blog or a website when I was a beginner though. But of course, wordpress is still the best, 2nd to joomla. They have lots of free themes to download. Enjoy learning!

  • You can buy ready templates for your website, and then you have to upload them at your hosting.
    But they may not work. Be careful.
  • Weebly is an easy option if you don't know html. I'm using it for an affiliate website at the moment and just finished adding adsense. Super easy!

  • Download a free trial of Dreamweaver and look at youtube for tutorials or lynda.com for paid training.

  • Try Posterous dot com - super simple way to do a blog via email and text. Includes video and photos
  • My vote goes for Wordpress. The part about being easy depends on how complicated you want the site to be. There are some aspects about Wordpress that can take some time to research, but overall I think that it's your best bet. Plus if you ever run into a snag, there are many people on here who use Wordpress so you can usually find answers by searching WF for your questions about Wordpress.
  • Isn't wordpress for blogs? What if your website is not a blog, what if it's like for example an anime site? I'd agree with using Dreamweaver, it's easy to learn anyway. Just have a couple of free ebooks about dreamweaver, search for tutorials and you're all set.

    • WordPress is easily configured for either web pages or a blog. Dreamweaver is expensive. The WordPress software, many themes and many useful plugins are all available online for free.

      You can install WordPress easily on your hosting account if you are on cPanel access. Just scroll down the page on your cPanel until you see the blue smiley-face for Fantastico.

      You really don't need to know much of anything to install and use WordPress. Blogger is great too but not for business.

    • How come no one mentions the many simple site building programs that are available?
      I use blue voda host and they seem to have everything the newbie or pro needs to get going. Drag and drop simple.
    • When I looked for nvu it goes to Komposer so I'm giving that a shot.
      My hosting with hostgator has 'Sitebuilder' and something else; and while I get there, it seems much harder than it needs to be

  • Download and learn Dreamweaver CS4 with a free trial. Also Lynda.com has a great tutorial on getting started with Dreamweaver's supplied templates.

    Or try Drupal.

    Also Lynda.com has terrific tutorials on how to use Dreamweaver templates to build a quick and easy website.
  • You can try joomla or wordpress. They both work for me. Just learn how to install them, then add functionalities(adding plug-in) without hard core progmramming headaches.
  • Wordpress is excellent as a CMS, but really if you want to get into webdesign, I suggest getting Adobe Suite with Dreamweaver, Photoshop and search google for "Dreamweaver tutorials" "Html tutorials" and "photoshop tutorials"

    After you start learning you won't want to stop!
