hi

sorry for being a doofus - but i can not figure out how people surf around single-column blogs if there is no side bar connecting them to the various categories within the blog, or why people set up single column blogs?

i know they have a purpose - but my adelpated brain can't figure out their usefulness for making sales if the blog has 100 pages in it

  • Most of them dont understand SILO i think. Thats why they dont keep or have less columns in their blogs.
  • They're designed to elicit questions from adelpated people with too much time on their hands.
  • One word: MOBILE

And those stats will continue to rise...

Notice that big time marketers - the legit ones who can back up their claims with actual verifiable stats and proof - are moving over to VIDEO? That speaks volumes.

      Could be funneling traffic.

Can't help without seeing the webpage.

      Doesn't matter.

Most modern sites use 12 column responsive design (ex: Bootstrap) which scales content down to tablets and mobile. You could have 11 sidebars, doesn't matter, they all stack on mobile when done correctly.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • They dont have option for making less columns
  • To remove distractions. Usually the main navigation is in the top menu.

  • It's easier to understand for them
  • Different strokes. I prefer 2-3 widgets but my sidebar is pretty bare bones. Could be a bit more favorable with mobile design. Even though your sidebar lags on the mobile scroll, a bit cleaner methinks. Either way, bloggers need to do what they feel clear on to find the proper blog layout for them.

  • If there is no sidebar, typically the blog will have to top or bottom horizontal navigation links. If it doesn't, either the blog owner has a very special reason for focusing on the latest page (maybe sales without distractions) or he/she doesn't understand blog linking.

Either way, if you don't like single column blogs don't use them - it's pretty simple! Don't be concerned with the missteps of others.

  • A few posts of my blog I create as single column blog. I use Get response and on my subscription level, I get only one landing page. So, when I need to create a landing page without giving money to anybody, I create a post on my WordPress site and use it as landing page. I do it for this, Others may have their own reasons..
  • If the single column blog is otherwise easy to navigate, likely the blog owner has their reasons.

If the blog is difficult to navigate, it usually means the blog owner read someone else's blog post touting the advantages of a single column site without understanding how to do it well.

Or maybe the blog owner saw another, stacked blog on a tablet or mobile, and assumed he could only use a single column.
  • It depends on what niche you are into and whether there is market demand for it.

If I am promoting info products, I will certainly want articles, banners and optin boxes on my sidebar.

If physical ones or CPA offers, just banners will suffice.
  • I believe that simple "navigation" is a key that many people miss. It is of utmost importance. Figure it out... Forget whats cool. Direct people clearly to where you want them to go NEXT.
  • I likely single column blog. It is the besst choose other one
  • I think It depends on blog design, but single column blog is not too much attractive, what are you thinking ?
  • Single column blogs look better on phones and tablets. The sidebar, if it's too wide or has images, could be distorted on mobile. And if you don't have a lot of categories for your blog, you can put them on the header as part of the main menu. It looks cleaner that way.
  • Single Column Blog is the layout in which the blogs are written.
  • Technically they are called full-width templates or pages. It is useful when you create a custom landing page or when you need complete control over your layout.
  • If you're creating a blog with long guides then it really makes sense to have just one column, it will keep people's attention from wandering. Then you hit them with an email subscribe form when they have finished the article.
