Yes it is one of way to protect your forums from malware or hackers but beside this way, you can do other methods to secure your sites as
    • Keep your software up to date
    • Check your passwords and make sure it is a strong password
    • Use HTTPS
    • Get website security tools
    • Protect your admin folders or hide it.

    Hope it helps!

Here are 5 points to secure your website/forums from malware and other cyber threats:

    1. Updates and Patches
Make sure your system, plugins and themes are always up to date, strengthening your web security.
Many CMS solutions will even automatically update files for you, if you choose.

    2. Website Scanning

There are number of free tools available for website scanning but I will suggest you MTvScan tools. It will help to audit your website for server & application vulnerabilities, hidden malware, and SSL security configuration errors. MTvScan lets you identify and monitor different types of vulnerabilities.

    3. Web Application Firewalls
Used in conjunction with a website scanning solution, a WAF can help provide around-the-clock, hands-free security for your business's website.

    4. PCI Compliance
The PCI Standard is mandated by the card brands and administered by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council. The standard was created to increase controls around cardholder data to reduce credit card fraud.

    5. Strengthen Passwords

Secure passwords are the front line in protection against Internet identity theft.

You absolute best bet is ask such a question to the community of the script you use. Since you didn't mention it, I can't point you there. But almost every forum script has a community forum, especially the free ones.

  • Well, to safeguard your forums from malware and viruses, it is good to consider a good antivirus software. With the help of a good software, you can simply safeguard your forums like never before. Other than this, avoiding websites that are unsafe and use only HTTP. With it, considering an up-to-date software can help a lot. Framing robust passwords can also play an important role in wiping off the fear of malware and other viruses.

You may consider the numerous suggestions suggested here. but I am not sure strong passwords and being PCI compliance could help you. Anyone who has tried this? Please let us know,

Yes, I think good antivirus software should do. I have seen Google and yahoo use antivirus to scan files before you can be allowed to download them. The idea is to sieve anything the antivirus considers harmful.
