These types of attack mostly target huge traffic blog. When you have huge traffic you will be able to buy firewall that cost just $10 per month.

All In One WordPress Security and Firewall.

Without installing this plugin first - nothing else matters.

Anytime I create a new WP site, this is the FIRST plugin that I install and configure. A freshly built WP site is easy pickings for a hacker - and I love to use this plugin to stop them dead in their tracks.

It does not matter what other plugins you install - if your site is already compromised.

I completely agree with this post.

A few months back I had some significant problems which resulted in my hosing account being suspended (twice). I had previously used most of the free security plugins but that was obviously not the solution for my WP security. I conducted a lot of research on WP security, At one point I used the paid version of BulletProof Security. Big Mistake, it was very complicated and confusing to set up. It then caused many more issues leading to my second hosting suspension.

Then started all over again and installed All In One WordPress Security and Firewall which I am very pleased with it. No problems since then. I really like dashboard and the interface.Comprehensive but easy to use. As he mentions above this should be the first thing you do if setting up a new site. If you have a word press site and you are using something different I would suggest you change to All In One WordPress Security and Firewall - also it is FREE

Hi, Why do you ask for "FREE". You get what you pay for.
On the web especially you need what you NEED, I know that sounds silly however with the virus's out there today, with people buying legitimate plugin and apps companies just so they can get virus codes into the main stream your security in ALL areas is paramount.
Don't get me wrong, I too had to start out with a limited budget, I'm a single dad so I had a very limited budget, sometimes though you need the best or actually you need the plugin/app that will actually do the job.
I recently took on a bus companies web sites, they were getting over 3000 attacks per day (all up), the previous company had used free plugins and the sites were going down on a nearly daily basis, they paid these rip off's over $15,000.00 to supposedly fortify their sites and bookings.
I did it in less than 2 weeks for a cost of about $1800.00 (I charged more than that for my time) but that was the cost for the top of the range security that they needed because of the ferocity of the hackers when they found out that they could no longer get in, so every time there was a series of attacks I would have to fight the sites, tightening up ALL areas, one 1 occasion I had over 2200 attacks one 1 site over a period of nearly 48 hrs, free stuff wouldn't have done the job.
So look 1stly at the people who are giving you advice, How long have they been members? How many "Posts" have they made in their short time on this the worlds best forum. Then ask yourself, If they have that much time to troll this site and use so much of their "Valuable" time to put up hundreds and thousands of "Advice" posts, how busy sre they/ What do they really know, most of the time when I do have the time to have a look, the advice is just generic rubbish you can get anywhere.
Personally what I feel you might want to consider is to actually change your questions, Ask "What do you need in these areas to meet your needs", all decent companies will be only too happy to answer your questions, be honest with them, tell them you have a limited budget and this is what you are doing.
I have over the years built some exceptional relationships with some of these companies because I was honest and told them what I wanted their plugin to do for me, I have received emails back telling me that at this time their plugin wasn't what I needed and they steered me towards the product I needed at that time, however when I needed a plugin that they had, they already had a loyal customer because of their honesty..
So do your research, ask the companies the "correct" questions which you will know when you have done your homework..
Good luck to you and never give up
    Wayne

    1) Akismet
Ah, comment spam. Don't you just love that stuff?

Those pesky little emails and junk mail that come flooding in at every turn are just so much fun.... Sarcasm aside, spam really is very irritating. And spam comments in WordPress are the most irritating of all.

If you want to save yourself a serious headache, then Akismet is the must have WordPress plugin.

This blog plugin helps stave off comment spam and even has the ability to delete all the junk comments on its own so you never have to even see those digital vermin.

    2. Broken Link Cheker: Help you to automatically detect broken links by scanning all of your internal or external links. You can update them and bring the good experience to your users.
    3. Mailchimp for WordPress: Good plugin to make an email list and perform email marketing.

The must have free WordPress plugins for every blogger:

    Yoast SEO
SEO helps you to drive more traffic from search engines to your website. Although WordPress is created SEP friendly, there are many things you can do for increasing your website traffic using SEO plugin. Yoast SEO is one of the best WordPress SEO plugins. Personally, Yoast SEO is the best SEO solution for WordPress site. It includes the remarkable features and tools which helps you improve your on-page SEO, such as snippet preview, readability analysis, keywords analysis, sitemaps generation, and more.

All in one WP security and firewall
Security is a top priority for all websites. All in one WP security and firewall is a totally free WordPress security plugin without any premium plans. The best thing about this plugin is all features categorized as basic, intermediate, or advanced, which helps various level users easily set up the configuration. The security strength is based on the security point scoring system with graphs and meters. This helps beginners easily know that what needs to be done to make your site secure.

    UpdraftPlus
Updraftplus is the most popular WordPress backup plugin on the market with over two million active installations. It is one of the favorite WordPress plugins of mine. When we talking about a backup plugin, one of the things we tend to ignore is the restoration process. I tried many backup plugins, and found out almost all freemium backup plugins lock the backup restoration feature which is included in the paid plan. Only Updraftplus and WPvivid backup/restore cover the backup and restore features at their free version. They both support to create manual and scheduled backups and allow you to backup to most commonly used cloud storage including Amazon S3, FTP, email and more. They also make it super easy to restore your website from a backup. If you would like to try some new plugins, WPvivid backup/restore is a good alternative to Updraftplus.

    Akismet
When you complete your WordPress installation, you will find a few pre-installed plugins, one of them is Akismet. Upon activation, Akismet filters spam from contact forms and comment sections, which is based on information gathered from all websites on which it is activated. Spam comment is a big issue when your site grows. In this case, you need other options to work alongside with Akismet to reduce the amount of spam.
