Developing an article website

Hello,

I must apoligize in advance for being a total novice.

I really want to develop an article website. I am actually pretty computer savy, but not in the area in website building (or internet marketing for that matter). Is it plausible that I can develop a professional site with a program like MS expression (teaching myself, of course). I want authors to be able to submit their work and I will need some kind of content management, I'm to assume. I'm not in a hurry, I just want to develop a good site. I like the idea of doing it myself and learning the ins & outs.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Vicki

I don't know too much about Expression Web (I hear it's a Dreamweaver wannabe). There's already some free and pay solutions available.

    Free
    ----
ArticleMS - This is a fairly stable PHP based article directory. ArticleMS - Article Management System
Article Dashboard - Another free PHP based solution. Article Dashboard Directory | Submit Articles | Search Find Free Content | Author Submission

Building your own is also an option. I like that idea.

Do you have any experience running a site or more importantly, a site that accepts user submissions? Article directories are not the first choice of most webmasters, because of the potential work involved. When your just starting out its not too bad, but as submissions increase... you'll put the hours in. It can be rewarding with dedication (you'll need that), but mostly, you'll need to be thick-headed.

What made you decide on an article directory?

Anyway, I'm not trying to discourage you.

    Good luck.

Thank you for you advice. Actually I don't really have experience running a site, let alone an article directory. I have searched articles on many sites (I like to read) and I became very interested in starting one myself. I work full time as a nurse, it's killing my body. I was thinking that if I worked hard and learned to make the business a success, it would be pretty nice to read articles all day. That would be a great living!

I believe you have what it takes. I say, "just do it!"

No, ...doesn't have much to do with SEO. I'd have to say no.

      hi,
thanks for nice briefing.it may helpful for me.but can i use dreamweaver?is it more better?what are you think?
      thanks.
DreamWeaver doesn't have much to do with it. You'd need to know a programming language to use it as a tool for this, but why? Just download a free script, set it up and there you go.

    Hi Vicki

I started my own article directory about 6 months ago using Article Friendly software: Article Friendly | Article Publishing Script for Php & Mysql

I encountered a couple of glitches with the initial set-up, but Jan Michaels, the writer of the software was very helpful and quickly resolved everything for me. It's been chugging along very smoothly with no issues since about 2 days following my purchase.

This is how it looks: Articles 2 Win | Free article publishing for websites and ezines!

    I recommend the software highly.

    Good luck - Anne
