When you create your own wordpress theme with Photoshop...

How exactly does it work? I found tutorials to help me, so the problem is not making the theme. How does the whole admin panel work? Like, if I make a theme and build a site, how do I make it so that the buyer will be able to login to wordpress and operate the site on their own?

I know this is confusing but just let me know if you need me to clarify some things.

    I saw the tutorial on adobetutorialz.com...I've used WP plenty of times as a user. I'm just not sure how it all ties in when you make your own theme.

    Example...Once you go to Host Gator and add WP, and now you have your WP blog up. Ok, you can upload whatever themes to your WP thru whatever FTP.

    My question is once I make the theme, do I just upload the theme to my server as I would do any other theme, or is there more to it?

    Hi there,

    If you aren't familiar with coding websites yourself then outsourcing your photoshop design to a freelancer could be the best solution for you because it can take quite a while to get your head around how to create the technical bits of a WordPress theme. Although having said that just looking at how the code of other themes fit together is certainly a big help and there are plenty of tutorials available, including websites that will provide the basic building blocks that you need for your new theme which you can then add to.

    Once your designed theme has been coded you could be able to slot it in just as with any other theme, so long as it had been coded correctly.

    Thanx Bex, I might have to outsource it eventually, but I have this thing that I have to at least attempt to learn it myself before I get help. I was a little naive to think once I design it in Photoshop, I'm done. LOL. I guess the next step is to learn some more coding. I know a little bc I'm a Computer Information Systems major, but I just started so I'm not an expert. Thank you again, I really appreciate it!

    Haha, you'll get there! Trial and error is a great way to go when it comes to Wordpress, I've come on quite quickly doing that. I'd suggest that before you start building your own theme from scratch that you have a look at the code for a couple of different free themes that have similar elements to those that you're planning on including in the design on your site. Having a look at the code that makes them tick will definitely help you to understand how everything fits together and which bits you'll need for your own theme.

    Good luck with it. I'd love to see the finished product when you get there.
