Hey guys,

Is it possible to retrieve an expired domain that was just recently registered by somebody else, who is now squatting and trying to resell it by issuing a trademark of some sort, or going through ICANN?

Cheers,
Brentis

The story does not make sense. If you want accurate answers, you need to provide full information.

In many cases, the registrant is a third party auto registration which is temporary and will expire ONLY IF you stop looking the domain up day after day. When a domain is searched for it indicates 'interest' and the third party temp-registers it hoping to make a profit. It's business and easily avoided if you register a domain you want WHEN you find it.

Edited to add further info: If you forget to renew a domai you have a reclamation period (usually 30 days - sometimes longer) - when you can re-register the domain by paying a higher fee to 'restore' the domain.

If you hold a valid trademark, you can send a notice to the current owner regarding any rights violation. Not an easy task to get back domain, though. You can sweeten your demand by offering a small compensation.
