This sounds like a good idea. You might have to try it and watch your bounces. Is your template for the html mobile friendly? If not then I would move 10 posts a day to wordpress until you get the job completed.
This would also be a good time to clarify your content or remove the content and add them to a pdf or video that you can sell.

I convert HTML websites to WordPress (WP) for a living, so I can offer some major tips.

Backlinks. Know that you have to maintain all of your backlinks. Use 301 redirects via your WP .htaccess file.

WP Permalinks. You decide on the permalink structure before you move the pages from the HTML site. Most WP sites use the normal permalink structure, i,e, /%category%/%postname%/ However, your site might need a different permalink structure.

SSL or Secure Socket Layer. Don't know how much you know about SSL and you may already have it. It is required if you do notwant most browsers to give your visitors a warning.

WP Theme. There are free and cheap paid themes. There are also great paid themes. It should not be hard to select a mobile ready theme that matches your existing site. The functionality of the theme is very important.

Also, if you do not have an account with Google Analytics it would be a good idea to create one just so you know what to expect and what to do before your new WP site is live.

Google Analytics and Google Search Console.

To put it simply, Google Analytics will give you data points about the performance of your website.

Google Search Console is used to improve and optimize your website. It provides information on who is linking to your site, if there are technical errors on your site, and intel to keyword queries.

I'm in the same boat... need to move 300+ static html pages to wordpress and like yours, my static pages are not mobile friendly and it's a nightmare to maintain static pages.


I have seen a few websites who moved the main pages to WP and the rest of the pages are still static. I don't really like it.
I like the idea above... spend an hour or 2 a day to move 10 pages a day to wordpress starting with the important pages... and don't forget to include 301 redirects to the new pages.
I know it's a nightmare as I moved about 50 pages blog like this... and I can say from experience it's important that you spend time to get the right theme and layout first time so you don't have to re-do this later.

I advise you to move your site to Wordpress gradually. But you don't need to drag it out, and the faster your visitor can see all the pages of the in adaptive mode, the better.
