What would you recommend for wp theme for blogging text with pictures and youtube videos /pictures embedded in the post. A nice looking opti-in form. I will perhaps add some amazon banners/plugins if this will fit with my niche.
Is there a free one, if payed max 30$ one time payment.

/Challe

I agree because the themes are straight from the developer and for normal blogging you can't go wrong. The only downside is a marketer might want features that are not part of the themes.

I agree because the majority of free and cheap themes are here today and gone tomorrow which at some point need to be updated when major changes to the Wordpress core are involved.

Genesis themes from StudioPress are a bit expensive for beginners on a budget, yet they are well documented and here to stay, so it seems, and are always updated when major changes to the Wordpress core are involved.

If you are just starting out, the themes available in WordPress repository might be a good starting point. Most free themes are not perfect, but some of them are just perfect for blogging sites.

Here are some of my own themes on WordPress:
    https://wordpress.org/themes/greydove/
    https://wordpress.org/themes/shaan/
    https://wordpress.org/themes/undedicated/
    https://wordpress.org/themes/jenny/
    Bootredux - Redux Themes

I always end up using my own theme as it is or with modifications.

If you are looking for more free options, here are some themes from others that I have use.

WP is not too complicated, you can watch a few videos that can be done by themselves

Use Astra Thème with Elementor builder, it`s a freemium thème so there`s a pro extension but you can do so much without it....

Quality free WordPress (WP) themes are not easy to find. Over the years I have made my own list of requirements that I look for in a free theme:

A quality free WP theme minimal requirements not in any particular order:

+ Compatiable with a modern WP Page Builder for both beginners and experienced programmers to construct their own site.
    + Responsive.
+ Supports all modern WordPress plugins.
+ Compatiable with WooCommercce if you run an eCommerce store.
+ 100% compatible with the WP Gutenberg editor.
    + Multiple predefined header styles.
    + SEO-ready.
    + Cross-browser compatible.
    + Google Analytics integration.
    + Back to top button.
    + Contact form.
    + Social media icons.
+ Supports the ability to import demo content.
+ Video on how to install, activate and import demo content.
+ Compatible with Android, iOS and Windows phones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers.
    + Supports high-resolution Retina displays.
+ Niche appeal, yet remains open to all fields of activity.
    + Informative documentation
    + Highly-trained support staff.

The only free theme that I have found that meets almost all of those requirements is:
    Shapely (not affiliated)
