I came across a couple of nice lists of WordPress Plugins and wanted to share them, the first one on the list is nicely categorized.

Top 160 Wordpress Plugin

55 of the Best Wordpress Plugins

Best Wordpress plugins - 18 most downloaded WordPress plugins ever

9 Best Wordpress Plugins

Obviously there is some overlap between these lists but there were a couple of gems here I hadn't seen before.

Hope someone finds this useful, and if you have any other lists like this I encourage you to post them as well.

These are great Bill, I think you should also post them in Allens "All in one" lists, he has one for this purpose.

You can have quite a few and my advise is, to stop your site running too slow because of too many plugins is, if you find you are not using the plugin then just delete it, you can always go and get another one in the future if things change and to keep your plugins up to date as the makers upgrade them, so should you.

I've noticed that if I have a lot of plugins running on my blog, it slows it down tremendously. I'm a big fan of trying different plugins but I try to keep the active ones down to a minimum. Really helps with the speed of my blogs.

There are hundreds and hundreds of plugins out there for wordpress which should mean you can get your site to do what you want/need. HOWEVER..

Some plugins are made and then some time later abandoned by their maker and as WP updates, those plugins do not, so if you always search for a plugin from within your dashboard under:

PLUGINS then ADD NEW then put a search term for it in the search field..

You will get a pop up when you select a plugin to install which will show you if the plugin is up to date for the version of wordpress that your site is running, you can also see other information and if it looks like the plugin has not been updated in a long while, then I would say, best not to install it and search for another more up to date one instead.

      Cheers
