Is it just me or is wordpress much harder than developing a site from php html and js.
It takes me hours to do something in wordpress that would take me a couple of minutes in php or javascript

Emm...I hold an opposite opinion. I think wordpress is pretty user-friendly for me.

I did the opposite in the early 00's, killing myself to learn HTML templates and CSS, only for wordpress to come along and say, "Here... we made things easier"

That being said, old habits die hard

Agreed l developed some WP software for my blog, but unfortunately developing a site page from scratch doesn't seem to be possible anymore, (Hostgator doesn't allow it anymore).

      I just checked, you're right
You would have to get a VPS or go through a cloud platform and self host from there.
Easy for technical people, but a huge hurdle for those who aren't.

De[ends on what you are doing. Most old school coders find WordPress annoying because they do not know their way around WordPress.

WordPress is annoying for those only who worked long on another programming language such as PHP, Java, dot net, etc... but WordPress is smartly designed for all types of users, whether its developers, beginners, or anyone with little to no experience. Easy to install and work. Its plugins feature makes it's special. WordPress is very SEO friendly and brings a ton of traffic from search engines. With the help of a service provider, you can optimize the WordPress hosting plan according to requirements.

A great page editing theme (or plugin) is Divi, by Elegant Themes.

You can create complex layouts with columns and rows and sections.

If WP is giving you a hard time, you must be doing something wrong... although it has a lot of limitations, the CMS is one of the easiest platforms for building sites in the market...

I think it is all about the page you want to develop. If it has too much details, then WP may not be the best option for you.
