Question on eCommerce-like website
Im working to lead the designing of an ecommerce website that keeps track of different types of DNA testing that our clients have ordered. The website will have a normal ecommerce-like product page and listings, and a package will be sent after something is ordered which contains the test kits. After these tests are returned and tested, the website will have to show the results in a table format with different ways of viewing the data. This website is meant to be implemented by a freelancer or contractor.
My main concern with using a ecommerce platform like shopify is that they dont appear to have the ability to do further things after an order is shipped, and the use case of these platforms is mainly for shipping a product, without a return and subsequent testing where the key product that adds value isnt the shipment but the result of these tests.
I have read that it is a BAD idea to implement a platform from scratch, so I am curious about platforms or ways to make this work. We need to be able to change things on backend and frontend to show these test results and eventually add in BI tools and whatnot, but also want stability, security, and legality for payments.
