According to Search Engine Journal, if you want to learn how to setup a WordPress site in less than 24 hours, this step-by-step guide will help you get it up and running.

WordPress is a fantastic platform for building websites on the fly with little to no development time required to get up and running. In addition, WordPress has fantastic customizability ranging from being able to fully customize your theme, to finding plug-ins that have the functionality to do just about anything you want:
  • Choose a Good Domain Name: This should go without saying, but choosing a good domain name is half the battle toward creating a good website. A good domain name should generally be short, catchy, describe your business, and be keyword-related.
  • Choose a Good Host: Choosing a good web host for WordPress presents several challenges. A web host should be a positive addition to your website's arsenal.
  • Inventory Your Existing Website: Here, you can figure out whether or not you want to start over. If your existing website is so horrible you want to start over, I totally get it. I would not want to add that site to my portfolio either!
  • Download WordPress: Go to WordPress.org and download the install files for WordPress. After downloading, you can unzip the files.
  • Create a MySQL Database: Before proceeding with the WordPress installation, it will be necessary to create a MySQL database in Cpanel. Without a MySQL database, your WordPress installation will all be for naught.
  • Install WordPress in 15 Minutes: There are some changes you need to make to the WordPress install files before you move forward with installing WordPress. First of all, it is necessary to make changes to wp_config.php in order to ensure that your installation will work. Without these changes, your installation will have problems. Using your FTP solution, let's navigate to wp-config-sample.php. We have to re-name this file to wp-config.php for the file to work. Next, we are going to make changes to some items in the file: the database name, the database username, database password, and database host. The Database Username will be "username_db1". Enter your password. Now, the Database Host is set by your hosting provider. It will be necessary to contact their support and obtain this information for that wp-config.php item. This entire process should take around 5-10 minutes total.
  • Find a Good Theme: Now that WordPress is installed, it is important to find a good theme for our project.
  • Install the Theme: When you do find your theme, it's generally a simple matter of downloading the files, extracting the files, and uploading them to your server. You can then go into WordPress themes and change the theme over to the new one so you can test it out
  • Customize Your Theme: Looking at customizations of your theme, it is important that you can customize everything. There are different levels of customization available that can make or break your website efforts. If you have a theme that doesn't let you customize your content with your own coding, or you have to code in such a way that mimics the coding being used on the theme, then the theme is not coded well.
  • Find & Install Good Plug-Ins: Finding good plug-ins is necessary to make sure that you not only have the functionality that you need, but that enhanced functionality runs smoothly.
  • Permalink structure: In order to implement effective SEO, the first thing that should be changed is the structure of your permalinks. You can find these settings under Settings > Permalinks. I prefer using the following permalink structure: domainname.com/category/postname/ where category includes the blog post's category (keyword-optimized for the topical focus of your blog), and then a keyword-rich postname.
  • Changing From WWW To Non-WWW: If you are migrating an existing site over to WordPress, I recommend that you use the existing site URL. Changing from WWW from non-WWW in that instance will only cause more harm than good, and you can introduce serious SEO performance issues as a result.
  • Make Sure You Allow Search Engines to Index Your Site: This is a biggie and can lead to SEO performance issues if you don't configure this. You can find this setting in Settings > Reading > Search Engine Visibility.
  • Site Speed: Speed is king and can make or break your website performance, especially where conversions are concerned.
  • Be Sure to Noindex, Follow Archive Pages and Disable Archives You Don't Need: Archive pages are the king of duplicate content in WordPress. They can make or break a site, especially when the site reaches hundreds of pages.

The steps listed in the guide can be done in 2-3 hours if it is not first time you are doing it. If it is first time, if you follow the steps correctly, from this guide or any other guide on the web, it will take you 5-6 hours.

Building a website on your own is great but I don't think it's suitable for everyone. I mean, if you don't know much about the design in general, about UI/UX, and so on, you won't be able to make something that looks decent and attractive. Even if you use various templates and design tools it won't help much if you are not into this.
Well, at least it works so for me. The design has never been my strong suit and I've always worked with designers or services like awesomic. I just couldn't come up with good ideas or realize something decent. And I believe this is true for many other people. At least if you need something high-quality.

WordPress is definitely the easiest platform for non-software-engineers to use to build a website. And there is a significantly large number of sites created on WordPress by non-software-engineers. That is why it powers 35% of the Websites on the Web.

WordPress could be used for very simple blogs, or you can scale up with complex multiple functionalities to build an enterprise software, or use WordPress multisite to create a blog network, or use its plugins or themes to extend site functionality, or write your own plugins of themes.

There is a large span of functions, some of these functions definitely need software engineers to do the job, however there is a significant bit of more that non-software-engineers could do on WordPress websites, for e.g. creating and managing content, products, prices, these are tasks that need to be done on a daily perpetual basis, this is better done by the business folks

However tasks like finding the right plugin for the job, or daily backups, or managing updates to themes or plugins, these are jobs better done by software engineers

WordPress has a great user & role management system which allows to create users and provide specific access to the users

Like business users could simply get an editor role, or a product shop manager could get a shop manager role, so these users will be able to perform only these functions.

Since these roles do not have access to the engineering functions such as manage theme, plugins, navigation, settings etc, these users cannot break the site. They can perform only their specific business functions.

Here is a quick overview of what business users could do themselves, and what needs a software engineer:

List of activities business users could do themselves:

    Creating and Managing:
    Posts
    Pages
    Products
    Gallery
    Images
    Videos
    Discounts / Coupouns
    Offers
    Social Posting
    Social Sharing

List of activities that are better done by software engineers:

Building overall Site Structure & Navigation.
    Setting-up Themes
    Setting-up Business Plugins
    Security
    Caching / Performance / CDN
    Daily Backups
WordPress Core / Theme / Plugin Updates

A great way for effectively build WordPress Websites quickly and effectively for the long run would be for Business users to function with support from Software Engineers, so the business owners can perform their daily tasks

While the Software Engineers take care of the tech stuff and provide helpdesk and functional support to the business users.

    Thanks and Best Regards

If you are a bit experienced in wordpress, you can do a basic 5-10 pages website with content in about 2-4 hours. I have created one decent wordpress website of 10 pages in 3 hours.

These tips are very nice and they actually can be implemented in several hours. However, you still need deeper understanding of the processes that take place, so, 24 hors is definetely not enough to master anything, especially wordpress.

Too many are focused on the 'hours' - whether it takes 24 or 48 - or if they could do it faster...or not work so hard. You could do it in a day or 2 or 3 or a week - and that discussion of 'how long' could go on here for weeks....and still be a bit irrelevant.

That totally misses the point of the thread! YOU can BUILD a Worpress site very quickly....THAT IS THE POINT.

ANYONE with a little effort and time can create a wordpress site that looks good....as you create more sites or work on the one you have you learn more about how to improve and add more to your site(s).

You can hire a freelancer to do the tasks for you - but if you learn it yourself you are in control of your site. It's not that hard - it really is not.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

With Zero knowledge of WordPress in 2022 it can be done lol. In 2003 you had to hand-code everything in WordPress.

WordPress has come a long long way. However, there is still much to learn but life is a lot easier.

And in 2022, if you don't like Wordpress you have other options.

It's possible to build a WordPress site in a couple of hours. However, the best websites won't be created that fast. You create the bones and main structure of the site in that timeframe, but then you'll need to continue to add new pages to it on a regular basis for years or even decades.

The advice here is pretty decent, even though they may be lacking a few of the more important details needed for a beginner to construct a quality website. Choice of web host is really important. I will always opt for speed over design. After building these sites for more than a decade, I've learned that there are some special tricks to make WP fast.

I don't believe I saw caching mentioned above. This is really important for speed and to reduce server resource usage.

Theme choice will very heavily affect the speed of your site. Using too many plugins or specific plugins with poor coding can also do the same thing.
