One way you can compress images is to use a program called Irfanview. It is a free program, where you can resize your images or save them for the web, which reduces the image size considerably. There are also some WordPress plugins that do this but it can slow your site down. I have found it is better to have already reduced before they go in the media library.

You can choose sizes and resolutions as per your needs.
If you want to compress your blog images then you can choose the wp smash plugin, it is good and also compresses the images.

Reduce the file size of a picture in Microsoft Office

Select the picture you want to compress.
Click the Picture Tools Format tab, and then click Compress Pictures.
Do one of the following: To compress your pictures for insertion into a document, under Resolution, click Print. ...
Click OK, and name and save the compressed picture somewhere you can find it.

Buy stock photos from Shutterstock. They usually have the best images available.

I use this site daily. Not sure if your doing 1000's images, but as I am working and creating images I typically just go here. Drop in the image and it compresses the snot out of it

Also you will want to have Wordpress hosting that has CDN which cures most of those issues. I just went to GTMETRIX and did a website speed test on one of my sites and it was pretty darn impressive but I have been dealing with hosting issues for a long time

    For now go to https://imagecompressor.com/

    That should help

The following are some of the best sources of royalty-free stock photos in the market
    • Pixabay
    • Flickr
    • Unsplash
    • Photo Pin
    • Public Domain Pictures

Always choose images that contain the message you want to convey.

For image compression, there are many compressing image plugins in wordpress, but ii can slow-down your site. Better way is to use image compression tools on the web like- CompressJPEG or CompressPNG etc.
