Editing header- Using Gimp...having trouble editing added image background on header

I'm trying to create a header. The background of the header is the gradient color that i want it to be. But when I paste an image of a person onto it the image background is white and that messes up the whole look. The only option I'm seeing so far is to manually erase using the eraser tool. But when I do that it looks very screwy and amateurish because getting around the curves and what not is tricky. I know there has to be an easier/ correct way to do this. Can anyone help or tell me how to edit the background of an image correctly? Thanks

You are probably using the wrong format for your images. I guess that the background of the original photo is transparent, its problematic. Try changing your background image to the same format and then copying it across.

If this doesn't work can you give a little more information about the files formats you are using.

send me your image, i will fix it or send me the psd file for your header with the image file seperate and I will fix it, then you can put them together.

Have agreat day, I may not be able to get to it today but probably will have time tommorow, either way I will do it for free.

just attach the header file to your post and the image file or you can PM it to me if this site allows that?

I am having the same issue. I purchased a custom theme from another warrior here and now I cannot upload it to my WP site. He charged me $80 bucks for the two graphics, which I now feel was not worth it, but live and learn. It was frustrating to communicate what I needed as English was not his native language. I was told that if I wanted the graphic to be uploaded to my site, it would be another $87 dollars. As I learned the lesson the first time, I did not go with this option. I asked why would it be so expensive just to upload the image and I got this response "because the structure of wp theme is not the same.. for wp you must integrate your msql and etc...but for a minisite that's a simple coding.. not a complicated one."
So, I do not know what msql is and why I need it. The graphic was done in Photoshop, so how can I upload the whole graphic into my blog, make it gradient in the center where the text will be located and then have the graphic be more prominent in the heading and footer. Essentially, I want the graphic to be on the entire page, but in the center where the text will be, I want it to be faded into the background, so you can see the text and not be overpowered by the graphic. Any guidance would be appreciated. I tried to change the image in Gimp, but had issues.
