Word Press v Wix - which is better?

Hi Warriors,

A friend recommended Wix to me. He claims it's a great start for creating a site. I have read some articles online however that it's not great and that problems with flexibility and editing, redesigning etc become difficult later on which can lead to many unforeseen costs. I also hear that Wordpress might be a better option. Please note; I am a complete novice but I want to start somewhere with my site and get a developer to further enhance later on.

High level overview of web-application

My website will be primarily a business search application. End user selects:
1. Country (main page - dropdown menu)
2 Category (main page - drop down menu)
3 Company Listing (1st drill down page after above selection made)
4 Full company Information (2nd drill down page after end-user clicks on selected company from list)

2 Question:

1. Would Wix or Wordpress be the best option to get such a design in place?
2. Could a developer easily change/add code later on to alter features/add new features?

Look forward to any suggestion

Thanks,

Matthew

Don't even think about wasting your time on the constructor if it's not a temporary page for advertising!!! WIX is essentially not your property, use wix only in case of quickly creating a page, for quickly selling some product, to save on developers. For SEO - wix black hole

It would be a good idea to learn some basic web
development skills, so that you don't have to rely
on developers or ask other people what you
    should do.

Back when the internet became a thing, I saw a
TV program where 12 year olds were displaying
the websites they had built, and you know the
    rest.

This decision is one that you need to make for
yourself. Do what works best for you.

Hello, I'll come from the other side:
Imagine that you got a product at a very low cost (you were lucky in some way and this was once, there won't be a second time, it's an accident) and you can sell it for a good profit. You need to quickly find clients... you need to make a page with a description, photo, price and characteristics and point Google Adwords to it, in this case WIX will help you...if you want to constantly develop and improve it using SEO, it's pointless

  • Essential query here reads like this:

INTO WHICH BOX MAY YOU DUMP YOUR STUFF SO MORE PEOPLE CAN DISCOVAH YR ASS AN' GO HEEEEY?

    On that basis, WordPress wins.

Course, you wanna say anythin' spectack, you hang out with dragons an' fly across the sky all kinda ablaze at seemin' random.

Natchrlly, you would always wanna gravitate toward the "hard to pull off", but I believe trooly in my heart that Wix demands more than it ... permits flow.

My view as yr natchrl Princess, your likely savior, plus also a gal turns pure filth into actschwanhobbyuel advice way too easily.

My thing with WordPress is if you don't have really good coding skill or HTML, CSS knowledge it can be a problem. I personally think WordPress breaks too much. There's always something going on with WordPress.

Now if you have no plans on editing pages yourself, it's a good option.

I like Shopify, you can't edit URLs very well but it's easier to manage as a solo entrepreneur. I've never had to fix anything on Shopify. And if you ever do they have a good support team.

I've never worked with Wix but WordPress allows for more customization but again, that comes with problems.

Looking at the overview of your website, I would personally suggest you go for WordPress. As, when you will expand your site and try to create more monetary opportunities, WordPress will help you expand easily with its flexibility and versatility. Also, you can find a WordPress developer more easily.
I don't have any experience with WIX, but I'm sure it can't be that bad

WordPress seems to be the best for most projects. Other platforms have their own merits but I look at it like a search engine, sure Google isn't perfect but I still use it above the other options.

I use Wordpress and I can easily say that it is very amiable to your needs. You can build a simple blog, or a heavy content rich site with unlimited features. There are thousands of designs and plugins to choose from, as well as countless developers worldwide whom you can work with.

  • I would recommend WordPress. You get full ownership of the site if you use WordPress. In addition, the functions and features of WordPress is way better than Wix.
