I hope this question is ppropriate (apologies if it's not) but I was wondering what questions I should be asking potential web designers/developers? I am starting a new business and tried to create a website using Wordpress/Kadence theme but it is very slow going (I've had no previous web design experience). I've decided to hire someone to help but I have no idea what questions I should be asking/what I should be looking for in potenital designer. The website is a blog/service review (similar to like reviewing restaurants or hotels). I have already built a Home, About, Contact, Blog and Review page (review pages will be broken out by city) but need help with formatting, pictures, SEO etc. I also need help with the Review page (need a Review menu at the top of each page with a drop down broken out by city that directs to each individual city review page). Thanks in advance!

Go to one of the freelance sites and hire somebody to build your WP.

It would be better for you to have them develop a brand new site instead
of coming in to fix whatever mess you have created, as they will likely
    charge you an additional fee.

I don't know what the going rate is lately but the last time I paid somebody
for a WP it was $100. Don't spend much more than that.

In the meanwhile, read a WP book and watch some YouTubes and learn
the basics of adding more pages, content, and such.

Do not give any developer all of your content as they might snag it and
    re-use it elsewhere.

You don't need to ask anyone a bunch of questions, just give them your
instructions and carry on. You're not hiring a permanent employee.

First off, kudos to you for building those initial pages on your own.

From my experience, here are some important questions you should ask potential web designers/developers before hiring:

    1) Can you show me examples of review/blog websites you have built?

    2) What is your process for making the site scalable & fast?

    3) How do you approach mobile responsiveness and accessibility?

    4) How will you structure the reviews by city?

    5) Do you handle on-page SEO setup and schema markup?

    6) What is your content and image strategy?

    7) Do you offer ongoing support or handover training?

From our own experience, we worked with a travel review startup in Ireland that had a similar setup => category pages by cities, custom review templates & SEO focus. One key lesson => we built a city-based dropdown menu dynamically using WordPress custom taxonomies, so our client didn't have to update menus manually.

    Good Luck..

I understand your problem. You already created basic website pages like home, about page, contact page another page.

You are looking website designer for your existing website and to complete this website. But don't know what question to ask a website designer.

I give you some basic questions, e.g.:
    1. How much experience in web design
    2. Do you have any past projects? What role in a past project?
    3. Are you able to design wp website or a custom website design?
    4. How much charge to design a website?
    5. Do you have any knowledge of SEO and schema markup?
    6. You are only designing work, or can you work on the development side or not?
    7. You can give a website design task in WordPress or a custom webpage design with a responsive site.

This is my opinion on basic web design questions to ask any freelance website designer.
I hope this detail fulfils your requirement.

    Hi PM Smith 2032,

Congratulation for creating the website on your own.

I faced the same challenge, when I publish my website.

If the speed is low, there may be many reasons such as
    • Using heavy fonts
    • Having shared hosting, which slows down the speed
    • Not following SEO best practices

If you have done all the above and still the speed is slow, you need to do following activities
    • Run the google page speed, and from the report, you follow the process. Sometimes it suggests installing plugin.
    • Use an image optimizer plugin such as Optimizer
    • Use Cloudflare CDN
    • Use Asset remover plugin
    • Use Cache removing plugin

I am sure, you will get speed around 90+. But if you are finding this a tough task, use WPRocket, plugin. Its a paid plugin and does all the above work.

    Trust this help!!

    Cheers!!
