Yes, I am still trudging through Wordpress, trying to learn all I can. Right now I am trying to find out how to get to my admin panel>presentation>theme to modify some text. Where the heck is that? I don't see anything like that in my dashboard or anywhere else. Also, I have some widgets stuck on the right sidebar again. I struggled with this before and got it. Now, different website, stuck again. The same steps don't work now! When I select widgets, they dont even show on the sidebars...so I can't drag them back. But they won't go away. Suggestions?

For that "Welcome" message - could it be in your Admin Panel - under "Appearance" some theme functions may be in there. ** see later post **

With regards to widgets - you will probably find that if you start to add widgets via the admin panel - the ones that are already in your theme will go. They have been hard-coded into the theme and are "default" ones. Just try to insert a widget (Dashboard -> Appearance -> Widgets) into the various sidebar options and you will find out.

    Hi rightwrite

You seem to have sorted the Widgets now . . . .

For your "Welcome" message go to "Appearance" then "Theme Options" - there is space there for the message.

Knew I had installed that theme somewhere before!

You may want to take a read through this site - it covers managing widgets among other things:

If your menu really does say 'Presentation' then it's an old version of WordPress - which is why it would be different from the one you just set up.

    Cheers,

      You're welcome!

Categories "should" be there as a widget? Have you tried logging out - then back in again and try it then.

It's in your theme until you change the widgets. You can add widgets to your sidebar and they 'trump' the coded sidebar that usually entails showing the categories. You should also have an option to add categories to the sidebar under the widgets options. So if you don't like where the categories are at the moment, just add the widgets you do want to add and move the categories where you please.

This may sound stupid but . . . . if you add a category (anything as a test) then see what happens! It may bring the widget out of the coded theme.
