Good Place To Find Web Designers?

I am trying to get a website launched and am at the point where I need a professional website designer since the website is more complex than a simple personal website. It involves people creating their own profiles that can be searched by the public. Does anybody here know where I can find a good, but also not terribly expensive, website designer?

Much appreciated any help.

      I don't know what your project is, but depending on your needs, there may be some cheap or even free scripts out there that you can use without having to pay a developer. Just a thought.

    Elance is junk... I haven't tried rentacoder though. I have an account at Elance though and the competition bids very low, but the client always comes to me after to pay the fair price because the provider either overseas, or a kid, actually couldn't handle the job. We are talking $800 jobs going for $50. Be smart though, or you're just wasting your time.

    Have you guys actually had good experience with these sites? I don't want to sound mean, but for me these sites were just filled with people wasting my time. I'd imagine there are some good quality designers/developers/customers on these sites, but in my opinion 95% are just people with bad english and poor quality work that can't generate their own business because they have no real experience.
