Site transfer problems

Hey folks,
I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to xfer my wordpress blog to a new server.

I own the domain, but the site was built on a different server.

I changed the name servers associated with the domain to my hosts name servers, and put a fresh WP install on the domain, but for some reason when I visit the site URL it still shows the old site instead of the fresh WP install.

I don't care about moving the old site to my server. I can just copy and paste the few pages I need and I have a copy of the template and images on my harddrive.

Anyone know whats going on here?
Like why it is still showing the old site instead of the fresh install?

    Hi Joishua

Silly question, but are you sure you're not looking at a cached copy? I've had that happen more than once. I've even cleared the cache (CTRL-F5 on most browsers) and had it persist.

If you can give it a try on another computer and see if you get the same results.

    Just a thought

    Hi JoshuaG

How long ago did you change the info for the name servers? It can take up to 48 hours for the names to propagate around the web.

Other than that, as long as you don't have some type of redirector in place, is should work.... One last thing, I have had a problem in the past when I have done some updates to a site and then would not show up.... Seems my browser was needed the history cleaned up and then everything worked fine... You may want to try this also.

    Have a Great Day!

      Thanks guys,

It looks like the name servers were just taking their sweet time.

It's odd, usually when I do this sort of thing the name servers update right away.

  • If you are switching hosts, you have to get permission to transfer (usually done through your account). You have to do this through both your old and new host. It can take a few days.
