Excerpt blocks on Wordpress front page?

Does anyone know of a Wordpress plugin that allows excerpts from multiple categories to appear in blocks on the front page?

This would look similar to the OneNews template but could be used by most themes without recoding Wordpress files.

On my understanding of WP you'll need to use a magazine style template rather than a blog template. They are coded differently and may suit your purposes better. I don't know of any plugin that will do what you're after.

  Thanks mello. Looks like that is the direction I will need to go. Am using Artisteer to redesign several sites, so was hoping I could use a plugin so I wouldn't have to re-code those sites.
