Image on Address Bar

This may seem trivial, but I've been looking to put
a small 16x16 image on my address bar, as it looks
better for the website & easier to identify for customers.

I've looked at a few google videos & the postings offer
slightly conflicting information & I'm more confused now.

Can anyone enlighten me about the best way to create
a small image for our websites & saving it as a favicon ?

Cheers

Mark

  • Hi Mark:

I use this website to create the favicon: favicon.ico Generator

I then upload the favicon to the root folder of the domain where the index.html or index.php is.

    • Thanks Linda for posting this link & that should now help me
complete another piece of the jigsaw, I appreciate this information.

There is similar info on you tube, but there is quite alot of
      conflicting information as well.

  • What Linda says basically covers it.
You need to create a favicon and upload it to the root directory of your domain.
  • If using Wordpress, some themes (Atahualpa) support very
easy changing of the Favicon. Normally you just upload
your icon to your root directory and name it favicon.ico -
you may need to clear your own browser cache to see
    if you got it right.
  • You may need to change the permissions on the file after uploading if it doesnt display.

    • I personally second, third and fourth the above 'clear your cache' pointer. Thats usually the main reason it doesn't show for people.
  • Hi FifthDimension - thanks for the further information regarding favourite images & uploading them to the server.

Hope to upload the image tomorrow & put this little problem to bed.

    Cheers
