I am a new affiliate and I am trying to find a good web host. I am down to host gator and godaddy. I would like to know which one is better and why? I have tried to compare the two and they seem to be equal as far as what they offer for the monthly amount. The only difference I noticed is Host Gator offers adwords money while godaddy offers facebook money. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

I would have to agree, I get my hosting through hostgator.

Plus i do use go daddy for my domain purchases only, i find that they are great for propergating domains...
Like say you are changing you DNS settings, go daddy usually do this within 15 minutes..

I have used 1 and 1 and they have taken 48 hours..!!!! which is far too long...

So use hostgator for you hosting and
Go daddy for you domains ...

plus don't forge to go to fat wallet.com and get your hosting and domain name coupon codes and save some cash..

      Tas

GoDaddy is a great registrar, but several of my clients had problems with their websites running WordPress so they had to switch hosts.

Hostgator or BlueHost are pretty good
      Personally I use ResellerZoom

Does anyone have any experience with "Fatcow" ? I recently signed up with them and they seem to be working pretty good. I like that I can call and actually talk to a person if I need to.

I agonized searching for a hosting company because if you get online and do a search for anyone of them you always find complaints for any of them. So it gets difficult finding one that will work for IM needs.

Yeah, I agreed to most of the people taht say Hostgator. I have purchased domains on Godaddy, but host them on Hostgator. Its very easy to make an Add-on domain with Hostgator, plus the cpanel is a powerfool tool. For example using cpanels Fantastico u can add a wordpress blog in minutes.

Seriously, this is the most important thing. Also having your site and database back up locally and to a service like Amazon S3 is a good idea. When mass SQL injections target a hosting provider, the cumulative secondary effects of everyone trying to retrieve their locally stored backups can render your files inaccessible for WEEKS, even with so-called "premium" hosting.

Having your registrar able to switch over to a different provider where you've set up a backup can minimize the effects of this nightmare scenario.

Oh, and GoDaddy has a confusing interface and to be honest I wouldn't even use them as a registrar ... in my experience they've made transferring domains out of their service purposely and needlessly painful ... as if they are trying to make you never want to come back.

        Couldn't agree more!

I haven't used them yet - but 123 reg appear to be very simple for buying domains and also has a simple interface (my pal buys his domains from there) I'd check them out - they do hosting as well but I'll leave the hosting recommendations to others as i haven't used many different hosts.
p.s I think the only downside to 123 reg is they can be more expensive, but if I had known it would have saved me hours trying to figure out godaddys interface I would have spent that happily

Go Daddy isn't internet marketer friendly. They don't take spam complaints nicely, even if you didn't do it. In their terms they basically say that they can lock everything until further notice. It's just like large spikes in profit in a paypal account because of a massive product launch. They want an explanation or and they won't take no for an answer. Bottom Line: It's very risky

This is a totally biased choice because I have been extremely happy with the 2+ years I have been with Hostgator. I should say that I have never used Godaddy for either registrar nor hosting.

I think the best thing you can do is buy domain name with godaddy and host them with host gator.

at the suggestion of the group (on another thread) I signed up with Hostgator yesterday. Very easy, very smooth.

HINT: I started the signup page and the phone rang. Didn't complete for almost a half hour and when I came back it offered me a coupon code - SPRING - for I think 20% or 40% off (sorry, don't remember which) on the 2 year plan.

I don't know if it does it automatically for everyone or because I sat idle on the page for so long, but hey - give it a try !!!

Do not hesitate to contact them via chat gator even if it's for simple things and several times a day. When I'm not sure about something, even if I feel it's stupid question, I contact them and in few minutes I have my answer.

By doing that, you prevent yourself doing something too quick and wrong.

I will prefer godaddy because it is manages more domain names around the world than any other single domain name registrar, or web hosting provider.and also it has been able to find a number of web hosting products and services they are good at and have been able to use to develop some very solid and very popular products to suit the needs of a wide variety of customers. but hostgator is similar like godaddy so better suggestion godaddy.

Definitely do not host your site at GoDaddy. I keep my domains with GoDaddy but use HostGator for my hosting. I have a package with unlimited domains so it's been really nice every time I want to try out a domain for a while not to have to think about hosting after I have purchased it. I just go into my cpanel and create a new add-on domain after I have updated the nameservers on GoDaddy. If I change my mind in a couple of months it's no big deal because I haven't paid quarterly or annually for hosting.

I'd recommend Internet.bs for domains. About $8 a piece and free whois privacy. And I would absolutly stay away from GoDaddy. HostGator is probably the best of the large unlimied (not really unlimmited) hosting, but theres a lot of better options. In short, I think MediaLayer is the best shared host but their expensive. For the longer explanation, see my website.

I don't know how people cope with GoDaddy for hosting, the control panel is so slow with the gazillion offers and upsells they have on it which have to load up as well lol.

It seems that every action you do, such as adding a domain, takes a few minutes for it to setup. Plus, it takes about 20 minutes for WordPress to be installed, even when using their installer app.

I used GoDaddy to install WordPress for a private client and it must have took me about an hour to finally have the addon domain setup and have WordPress installed. It would have been quicker to do it manually.

Stick with a cPanel host such as FusionHost or HostGator. I use the Softaculous 1-click installer at FusionHost and you can install WordPress in literally 5 seconds. For domains I recommend NameCheap.

Using Hostgator for hosting and godaddy for domains for over 1 year, I didn't have any issue yet, but I saw a lot of bad stories with both, so I decided to try different companies, making a research over here and the best comments went to Bluehost and Namecheap, Bluehost with just 1 click you can update all your wordpress sites, imagine if you have over 100.
I stopped to buy from godaddy because I hate all their upsells, really can confuse a newb, the only good thing if you need transfer a domain, must of us have a account with godaddy so is very easy and fast when both are using godaddy.

The only difference I noticed is Host Gator offers adwords money while godaddy offers facebook money. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Choose HostGator for your hosting. GoDaddy is alot more complicated and it takes alot longer for changes to take effect vs hostgator. Also, hostgator offers 24/7 chat support which is great! Ive never had any problems with them. Go Daddy only offers phone support which is a huge minus in my book!

From personal experience, I find BlueHost to be the best. They have very low down time, lots of cool services for your website, and the best customer service. They have made making my web site available to others a simple and easy task. BlueHost has also made great tutorials to help you get started.

If you absolutely have to go with either HostGator or GoDaddy, I would choose GoDaddy. Hope that helps!

I'd definitely go for Hostgator for hosting stuff. Godaddy shared hosting is a joke (though their virtual servers work well). In addition, and this is only one particular incident, but I attempted to install a plugin for Wordpress that was meant to send me weekly database backups (WP-DBManager), and ended up finding out that Godaddy locks down their database access too much for even a simple backup of the database to be generated and emailed to me. That's more of a convenience thing, though, and I didn't dig really deep into the technical portion of it after reading that people were having the same issues with that particular plugin and Godaddy hosting in general.
