    I would use wordpress.

It just allows for such more more flexibility. You can have a wide range of plugins that will help you promote your site and it's easy to use and enable!

Yea I figured wordpress would probably the best route. In terms of selling, which usually holds a higher value. A website made of wordpress pages or a static site?

You can use wordpress with static pages. Search for "wordpress as CMS"

I like using a combination of both static PHP pages and wordpress. Search engines just love wordpress and index the comments quickly

    Wordpress FTW
You can do anything with wordpress and a whole load of plugins to support you on the way.
Wordpress has an option to point to a static page in the front page, so all you need to do is point the front page to a static page that you create(in wordpress) and you are good to go.
If you want your front page to have a different template compared to the rest of the pages. You just need to copy your page.php to some other name and change the template. And then make some small tweaks in the code( you need to google this, dont quite remember) and you are good to go. As good as a custom html page with a seperate template for a front page. Let me know if you have any queries regarding any of the technical aspects.
