Is my wp-page screwed for good?

My page is showing this when I load it:
Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host's database server is down.
  • Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
  • Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
  • Are you sure that the database server is running?
The only thing I did so far is try to load a new theme for my site. I downloaded the file, zipped it, and extracted it into my site themes. This was straight into my wordpress file, not from the wp admin page.

What do I do now?

    Back track..

    Assuming you uploaded the theme via FTP (you said not using the wp admin panel) then reconnect to your site via FTP, delete the uploaded WP file then see if things go back to normal once you have deleted it.

    If they do I would suggest not using that theme, if they do not, report back here hopefully for someone to help, report what you did, how you did it, the result (as much as you can) and also a link to your site might be useful.

    I have to go out now but hopefully someone else will be able to help.

    Go check the database ,user and password details in the config file of the main wordpress folder. Then check the details on your webhost through the cpanel.

    Sometimes an upload can corrupt these details - I don't know why but I know it can.

    I had the exact same results the other day - left it for a few hours & tried again & all was fine

    It turned out to be just my hosting conducting unplanned maintenance

    Hi,

    I agree with the other posters. Adding a simple theme should not affect your database connection. If it persists go to your webhost support panel and ask them to look into it.
