are you trying to do this from wp-admin page?

You probably have permission set on your files to not allow server to modify the files.

Go to your cPanel on your host, go to file Manager (legacy file manager is my favorite). Find your header.php, sidebar.php files and change their permissions to 766, see if that works. Ideally you want 746 even 745. But 766 should do the trick. IN WORST case scenario do 777 for time being and then change it IMMEDIATELY back to 744 (or what your default value was)

    your files should be in:

    /www/yourblogname/wp-content/themes/themeyoureusing

and i have 755 set on my sidebar.php and header.php files. It works fine.
