Wordpress Config Question

Under Settings, when you leave the box checked, "anyone can register", what exactly does that allow them to register for? The RSS feed? Does your blog send them an email about anything new being published?

Is this an "opt-in" similar to the email opt-in. What are they agreeing to receive. Sorry for the confusion.

    Hi Warfore

If you leave the box ticked then people can register on your site I believe the default is "subscriber" meaning they have a profile setup that they can edit and that's all. You can change their "roles" to give them more functions but it doesn't automatically e-mail them newsletters and so on, this is something you would have to do yourself. It's not really an opt-in but I'm sure there are solutions out there they can provide these functions

try this for some more info on the subject

Its a feature I've learnt to turn off if you are using Wordpress just for static/few page sites. Stops bots registering automatically too !
