Wordpress Pages Aren't Publishing....

Ok, so after having to deal with a technical issue with trying to install Wordpress to my domains hosted on hostgator, now I've run into another brick wall.

My pages are not publishing at all. Not even the "About" page. As soon as you go to the link, you get an error 404 message! Are there any common reasons why this might be happening? I'm wondering if it might be because of how the tech support had to go into the file manager and change things around earlier.

I'm also wondering now if it might actually be a problem the host servers are have, since just a couple days ago, I visited a site hosted on hostgator, and a lot of the links were 404 errors.

    Thank you for your responses people! Actually, I kept fooling around with it and ended up changing the permalink settings. Strangely, it worked! One thing that's odd though, is that as a test afterwards I changed those settings back but it still worked.
