Hi everyone.

I am creating a dvd course made up of several smaller videos detailing aspects of the course.

I wish to design it like this so a customer is able to go to the video detailing to what they are wanting to recap or watch.

I will be using camtasia to record all the videos.

I have not yet explored the menu maker on this software.

Saying that what would you all recommend to use.

Regards Darren

I'd go for Adobe Premiere Pro, specifically created for video editing and DVD production. Easy to learn too....

    Hi,

For a few years now I have had a few video courses for sale. I create them in Camtasia and produce them as Quictime Movies.

When I originally started I created menus in HTML. Basically once you downloaded and unzipped my movie packs you see a starthere.html page. Clicking that opens up a HTML page with the Terms Of Use. When people agree it takes them to the next page which has all the information on downloading Quicktime etc.

Finally there is a link at the top of the page that goes to the Movies page. Once there you have a list of all the movies, click on the title and that opens up a pop-up window with the Quicktime movie embedded.

I found this was a simple way to do everything and using HTML guarantees that the movies download pack will work on Linux, PC or Macs.

However I have recently updated everything and instead of recreating the HTML pages I simply took every movie, put them in a folder and now have a Quick Start PDF Guide that lists the movies.

Then you just go in the folder and click one by one on the movies you want to watch. This way is simpler for me and would be simple for the customers too. And I've had no complaints or returns.

I have never tried the menu system in Camtasia.... but you can probably set up a Flash menu... But then does that work on Macs?

    Cheers

      Thanks for all suggestions.

Thanks Max, there was some good points there.

      Some things to think of.

Ideally of course I want to have them play on all OS, also my thoughts are to have it also play on tv. Mind you if someone is following the course as they go I dare say they dont want it to be on tv????????

I dont really want to host online, as it is needed for customer to be able to flick back now and again and recap and watch one of the clips. Not have to download or view the movie online again.

This will be a physically shipped out item, thus to decrease paypal chargebacks etc. I dont want it to be available online as I am trying to minimize duplication or theft as much as I can.

The only thing i would host online would be an update to a section of the dvd.

Again thanks for the comments so far.

pricey, but I would use Adobe premiere. Has a 30 day free trial, which is upside in it

While I have not yet fully found a use for it myself, I would suggest going with adobe products ( premiere, encore ) after you have captured the video source. From your camtasia renders, take them into premiere ( for extra edits or jazz ) and export out to encore for the final menus and final touches. Or you might be able to do just encore itself and skip over premiere depending on how lengthy or complex your videos are. All of your menu controls are easy plug and play when you are in encore, so it is a plus.
