Display video in WordPress???

I am currently inserting videos from YouTube in my hosted WordPress site.

But I seem to be missing a step when I want to insert mp4 or flv videos that I upload to my site. When I insert them all I get is a link that can be clicked on to play the video. What I want is a player similar to what embedded code from YouTube accomplishes.

Please help me understand what I am missing and how to best accomplish this. Thanks.

There are several plugins that can take care of that, or you can use html-code to do it for you. This link gives you some more information: How to Add Video to WordPress - Easily Add Videos to Your WordPress Blogs | Theme Lab

I personally just upload to youtube and then embed the code in my blogs.

Leslie, thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, using that plugin is not free for commercial use, but it gave me some ideas and better understanding.

I finally downloaded Hana FLV Player 2.4.2 and gave it a try and got it to work. But it needs an extra photo if I want a splash to come up first, else it just shows a blank video startup.

Still looking for the best solution. Obviously, uploading to YouTube is the easiest, but I would like to come up with a simple solution for self hosting or using video from Amazon S3.

      Thanks.

Yes, probably easier to just upload to Youtube. I mean why not?? You get the traffic from Youtube, and you get a great video player. You don't have to worry that you're promoting them, there isn't one person that doesn't use it. If you need a custom player, it is possible, but you might need to have it created for each video you have. That's what I do if I need a custom player for a real pro site for a client.

This is a video player plugin that is fairly easy to setup and use.

However, I do second the suggestion that you might want to put it up on youtube and use one of the any number of youtube video insertion plugins for wordpress that are available.

    Good luck!

aarohi, I am going to give the Flash Video Player a try.

      Thanks for the suggestion.

      Later:
That didn't work very well. I was able to install Flash Video Player 5.0.4 but when I tried to "Update Options" it gives me the following error message:
      Nothing found for Wp-admin Options-general Php?page=flash-video-player Php

Then when I try to post a message on their forum after registering, there seems to be no way. Not a very good experience so far.

Oh, dear. I'm surprised it didn't work for you, as I have used it a couple of times in the past. Perhaps an upgrade broke it. I'd be happy to take a look at your website and help to the extent I can. Feel free to PM me your URL if you are keen?

I'm sorry to lead you up on something that may have wasted your time!

        Best,
        Avani

I'm not sure if I understand your problem, because im not a native english speaker, but as far as I'm concerned, you have to be careful with the bandwith.

One of the problems serving streaming video is that apache consumes lots of resources in the server and it can cause some problems if you have lots of visits at a time, maybe 15 or so at once.

I investigated a bit in the past but didnt try the solution that I found on the internet: lighthttpd instead of apache... very technical stuff, I know . It seems to be much better.

Just be aware of the amount of traffic. it's crutial for video streaming.

I would use amazon, but this is up to you
