How not to loose google love if i re-arrange my site

Hi All,

I would like some opinions from people. My wonder is.....

I have my site Quantum Photography | Photographer Perth which is basically setup as blog posts etc.

I am ranking well for certain terms, for example if you type into google " pool photographer perth" I have position 1 and 2.

A few other terms I am doing well on as well.

What I am thinking of doing is redefining the site. A few of my links at the top I do not delve into yet, so i will be revamping the site.

I am not sure whether to break the site down a bit and create pages for example Pool Photography, Tips and Tricks. And then furthering that to inground pools, above ground pools and so on.

Or whether I should simply break it down into Categories.

I am using wordpress by the way.

I dont wish to loose any google link love that i already have but am wondering which is the best way to go?

I would love some thoughts from you all.

Love the effect at the top of your blog's home page! Very cool.

I have the same problem; I don't always plan my sites very well and end up rearranging and renaming stuff. I try to avoid it if possible but I use 301 redirects if it can't be helped.

      Thanks Laura.

I like it too but i will be redisning the theme as a couple of the links I dont plan to use, and it would look silly with only 1 or 2 moving things at the top.

There is a plug in i use " permalinks moved permanently" which if i move posts around, i presume still locates them, or i edit my 404 page that will say.....Sorry I have just rearranged my whole site...what you are looking for is still there...You will be redirected to the home page in 2 seconds.. That will keep them on my site, just make them look for what they were originally looking at.

Will see what some others have to say.

      Cheers

  • Hey Bobby

Rather than just moving your site and leaving it at that. If you write a .htaccess file which will permanently re-direct the pages to the new locations, (if its a permanent re-direct 301, and not a temporary 302, then it shouldn't effect google rankings as far as i know).

    Hey SteveCane

That scrolling the at the top of the website (with the links/images), that's the "sliding doors" plugin from jQuery (JavaScript Library)
