Hi fellow warriors,
It happened about one week ago. I have about 7 blogs sharing a same hosting account (Hostgator Baby plan). All my post in one of the blog has gone last week! I got upset but immediately get to work to register another domain name and put up a presell page and redirect the old domain to the new one.

Then, today it happen again to my other blog! This time is more serious as I have put up more than 14 posts and have been backlinking for 8 months. I am asking whether anyone can show me to the right posts in the WF to help. Also, I am worries that one of the plugins may be causing the problem. Anyone willing to look into my blog, pls PM me. Tq.

Hey Spud, I also use Hostgator and came across this same problem a few months back.

I was told by a live chat tech that this is a problem with the permalinks and he told me to input some code in my .htaccess file and that would solve the problem.

It did solve the problem and now, I input that code into every blog I build, just in case.

PM me your email and I'll send you the code.

Well, I have contacted the Hostgator support and give them my login details. They said my wp-post file is corrupted and have solved it for me.

Esr, please also e-mail me the Code as it may affect my other blogs in the future.

You didn't get it? I sent it hours ago. I'm sorry. Check the second email address you sent me. It should be there.

Good thing it's just a corrupt file. As things gets more serious, you need to start thinking about regularly backing up your blogs.

Thanks esr, I got it now. I find it strange that it affects a few blogs at the same time.

Well, Hostgator support says it is done by running a database repair and the command was most likely: mysqlcheck -r database_name. Anyway, the support response is fast and I can contact them again if i run into the same problem.

a good idea would be to have wordpress back itself up regularly through a plugin. That way you don't have to worry about doing any regular backups manually and won't lose anything in the case of a catastrophic failure

A good start would be to google "wordpress backup". I personally use
hxxp://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-db-backup to perform backups on my personal blog.

You can also read up a bit more about regular backups of wordpress on the wordpress blog: hxxp://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups

(sigh.. new member = low post count = link limitation - replace x with t..)
