What is the Best Country in Web Design Freelancing?

Hi Warriors,

I'm looking for someone to hire my web design work. should I hire Indian, Philippines, or should I just go for Romanian guys.
Please share your own experience, I look for web designers that provide high quality designs.

  • I've had work done in India and Singapore before. Both projects went completely wrong-I would never go east again. I have a very good Romanian guy that I now use when I need to call someone in.

    • Hi Elec. Sorry, I can't pass on the details as he's in the fortunate position these days that he's to busy to take on new clients, And I'm not sure he'd be for you as he works a relatively specialist area.

      What type of projecy is it you are looking for? I may be able to suggest someone else.

      If you are outsourcing (this is how I found my guy) I'd suggest putting your project out on one of the various freelance sites there are out there. There are a lot of charlatans (and some who are just plain thieves) about so if you do here's a couple of tip.

      1. Thoroughly check out their portfolio and client history via the site
      2. Check references
      3. Ignore anyone who sends you what is clearly a standard response (ask some direct questions in your brief so you can weed them out easily)
      4. Use the freelance sites that work on an escrow system like ScriptLance.com Custom Freelance Programming. Outsource web projects to programmers and designers.
      5. Conduct some due diligence as to ID and personal/business information provided
      6. If something doesn't feel right about someone just don't do it

  • You're absolutely right Andre, there must be good designers in India, but what I meant is that Romanian guys have edge in this area.

  • I am sorry Elec , quality of work has nothing to do with the country in which they are living, it depends on the attitude & skill set of the provider.

  • I know I'm being bias... but a lot of the people in Asian countries have an excellent artistic inner core. Most of the people are right brain creative. There were many options when I was sourcing out for the best place to get designs done (not pitching), but I wasn't looking right under my nose.

    I've heard many horror stories from other places in Asia, including the Philippines. However, it's my chosen destination for my web services.


    Here's a the bottom line: If you're looking for someone to copy a website, India the place, but you have to very specific with what you want.

    If you want creativity - the Philippines is my top choice.. - (Bias implied)

    • You are indeed, and again it is a ridiculous way of thinking and I do NOT agree and this is NOT proven either... this kind of discussion, which I believe is the base of rasism, shoudn't even occur as it can quickly derive... it's also a bit like childish discussion like "my father is stronger than yours" ... :rolleyes:

    From my point of view it does not matter where is from the designer. I think the main concern is good quality web design service with low price. If you get a Design cum Developer with good skills then that will be good.

    • I think good value is the important thing, as opposed to low price.

      But i agree a good designer can come from anywhere. You have to speculate sometimes, and if you strike up a good working relationship, then to me it doesnt matter where they are from
  • Guys, for me I'm just seeking a designer with portfolio I like. All my previous work got me to know that Romanian guys particularly are excellent (simply because all of the Romanian guys I worked with gave me impressive work), but of course I don't mind working with any designer with good portfolio from other countries, be it India, Philippines, or any other country.
    But this advantage caught my attention and I just wanted to share it with may be you give me additional experience in your side.

      But nothing superiror to the point of saying that this Romanian guy is THE ONE to hire to do web design... period :rolleyes:

      All is a matter of taste, really, if you like his work hire him. If you like my work hire me!

  • Really interesting posts.

    I've been outsourcing to India, Philippines, Indonesia and Hong Kong even the US for a while now.

    The western world follows the Typical web 2.0-esque design, while the Asians countries have their own variation. That's why we don't see their design as adequate.

    Indian experience - Very polite people. They work really hard, and they have excellent code. Design however is their weakness.
    I recommend you take a look at the freelancers portfolio.

    I once had an Indian charging me for a free template he downloaded off of The Pirate Bay.

    Philippines: The experienced designers usually have a sense for western web design. That helps a lot if the costumer is American / European.

    Development wise: A lot of C++ / C programmers wanting to work for $4 an hour. It's a bargain.
    Too bad none of them own Intel based mac. iPhone dev is the new fad!

    Indonesia: In my opinion, Indonesia has one of the best web designers.
    Really good looking portfolios. They also have experience with e-commerce design, and code.
    They are really polite and helpful. Their prices are a bit higher - but you get what you pay for.

    Hong kong (China): This is country where finding good programmers and designers takes more time than actually writing and doing the job by itself. But if you actually manage to find the person/team - it's extremely valuable. Excellent Java / C++ / C programmers that are willing to go the extra mile. They have an extreme respect for their bosses (you.)

    If your looking for a team of people, you should consider this:

    System development from India
    Web design from Indonesia
    PHP/CSS/HTML - Philippines
    SEO / Marketing - China

      This is all based on the EXPERIENCE of only ONE person. Not proven scientific facts... So this might be true, for you!! It is then still a ridiculous way of thinking (not you personally of course), and I still DO NOT agree with such statement ...

      I hope everyone can realize that this would proven facts only if one could align ALL the portfolio of ALL the designers in the world.. otherwise this is a vain discussion and waste of time to generalise like this.

  • There isn't any single country or region that has the best in freelance web designers, skill-wise. But there can be huge differences in economics, language fluency and cultural influences from East-to-West.

    Savvy clients usually look for the best designer who has solid experience with the target market and the intended audience. It all depends on what you want to achieve.

    • Heu... Yes, I did see your work indeed, and I said it was good. You pointed out someone to you sig uphere and I went to check. This is why I said what I said. Otherwise I woudn't say it.

      I'm not offended by other people beliefs at all, I respect all beliefs. However, beliefs and FACTS are two things. Like for example you believe your work is superior, I respect that. However it cannot be put up as a fact because we'll always find something even MORE superior than what you offer. That goes as well for who believes a country can be superior to another for whatever, real facts will always prove the contrary. Plus a web design discussion forum isn't a place to discuss beliefs, what we're discussing is facts. Thank you. No offense at all.

      It's like racism, with the difference that it's not based on race but national affiliation.

      It is a sort of discrimination.

      Although prejudice and pre-conceptions are sometimes based on real empirical observations, it is unethical and bad practice to base decision upon them, and it is wrong to treat them as a fact or a general truth.

  • You have to know a designers skills ask for a lengthy portfolio so you can see all of their capabilities of work so far done. India and phillipines are some of the most diverse countries just need to find the right designers and skills!

      Here's what makes me different than everybody else. Not only am I competent, not only are my prices reasonable, but my Clients work with me long term. They like having someone dependable they can always count on.

  • Creativity and quality is not specific to any geographical region, but yes if you are looking for price competitiveness then Asian region is every individuals/ companies favorite destination.

    One more thing which is pivotal while giving your project and that is communication level. Among Asian countries India does have capable workforce with effective communication skills.

      If the title of this thread had been this:

      "In your experience what are some of the best countries for web design freelancing and why?"

      Instead of:

      "What is the best country in Web Design Freelancing?"

      Then I doubt Andre would have had a problem with it but as it is people's beliefs are being represented as fact in this thread and the very nature of a forum lends itself to some people believing everything they read on it.

  • Well...this one is a tricky question. Anyone with good designing skills can design for you..and that person can be from any Country. Depends on the quality of previous work.

      It is a fair question by The Alec to get some idea on where to outsource
      the talents in IT services, no doubt the main thrusting by small and
      medium enterprises and larger companies has been
      in India mainly, but moving fairly recently to the Filipines and
      the Eastern EU Block.

      Hackneyed in his repeating of feelings of offense because quick into judging
      this thread started by one of the members of this community.
      The for outsourcing are mainly in the above countries, so
      the talents are there for meritorious services rendered, as proven in the
      gearing of Western enterprises outsourcing their operations to these
      countries very successfully affirming the emerging and established talents
      theres.
