What Free Software Do You Use To Create Headlines

I am currently editing my website before I put it online. I have a very low budget and want to create my own graphical headlines. Do you know of free software which can easily apply a style and font to text?

I used Microsoft Office 2007 (trail version) to create the example below. I would like to get familiar with other software because I won't be able to buy Office 2007 when it expires.

Photoshop, But that is even more expensive

Try GIMP, it is the next best free thing after Photoshop, and can make headlines look like that (as a matter a fact, can do very much of what PS does...)
just look for a doggy head logo, that one is gimp...

    Thanks guys!

I do have GIMP, but it is not that easy to create headlines compared to just selecting the text and applying a nice font and style. I'll try Google Xheader. Thanks!

I tried Xheader and it looks like a great tool, but it looks like it is designed for creating headers rather than headlines.

I am looking for software where I can simply select the text, apply a style and custom color. Powerpoint 2007 has limited functionality but it does the job nicely.

Are there any other free software?

I use Xheader for adding images to my headers and the tool is really great.
The text is a little bit one sided and not very proffesional but it works.

You get great value for your money thou.
