Hello,
I've built a simple website and I want to add a counter.
I'd imagine there are standardized website counters that you'd have to use so that people can believe your traffic numbers. Also I'd like to gather some info about my visitors.
Please suggest a counter.
Thanks

Personally I have found Statcounter to be the easiest to setup and does almost everything I want (show recent visitors, keyword analysis, popular pages etc).

If you'd like more advanced features or if you're adding a counter mainly to assure people of your traffic, go with Google Analytics.

If you have access cPanel through your web hosting account, there is a free CGI counter script you can use. It's called Counter, and you can find it in the CGI Center. It's easy to customize the size and appearance of the counter, and the script generates the html code for you to put in your web page(s).

You can't go wrong with Google Analytics. You can also look at very detailed information on your visitors with Awstats in cPanel.

I'm using Statcounter and Analytics. I find that the number of visits and pageviews reported by Statcounter is much higher than whats reported by Analytics.

    Statcounter seems inflated.

i use Google Analytics for most things i`m interested in, they have some may goodies in there
but, as you probably know, GA does not SHOW OFF towards your visitors, it is hidden
So to be able to also give the visitors a way to check the site stats, i use this little thing:
eXTReMe Tracking - Free Tracker Registration
its a popular little square planet that ppl interested in the stats know to click it and doesn`t offend with intriguing numbers the "innocent visitor"

counter.... how 90's.... yuck. Lots and lots of counters. I agree with using cpanel "free counters" if you insist, but google anaylitics will be much more accurate and nobody has to see it but you.

Whenever I see a counter.... I think "novice". sorry. just my opinion.

If you want to have something like google analytics with counter and browser sniffing and those reports you want to analyse for your website.
If you have access to your website database you could install this little web application very easy to install and very powerfull.
      it's called PhpTraffiA from soft.zoneo.net
I've been using it for quite a long time now I control all my sites with it.
      Good luck

    Hi,

You may want also to take a look at GoStats Free Analytics & Website Hit Counter. It's available from gostats.com
You may choose from many types of counter styles one that suits best to your site.

There is also available a professional GoStats version, which has more features than the free one, but the free version should be sufficient.

if you use wordpress. you may simply add plugin named 'STATPRESS' it is a all in one solutin for admin (back end statistic) and Guest (front end statistic)

if u use basic html page.. i would recomment you Free Website Hit Counters, Web Page and Traffic Stats Counter as it also provide detail about ur website statistic on their site

ok, excuse my ignorance, is google analytics free to use? I have used statcounter and also used statspress in wordpress. Interestingly I get different figures with them, not sure why that is.
