WEB DESIGN

Hi,

Just now launched a damn NEW site for the benefit of dog owners. The site is Dog Help For You- A Perfect Dog Advice. Please do visit my site and offer your comments with regard to design.I don't have more than one page.

Please review this toddler...

Man, what a DOG!!

Just kidding. Nice layout for your first version. I would make the headline bigger and possibly come up with a better one. The writing, I think, could be polished up a bit more.

I had thought about doing something similar, but decided that the topic was just way too broad. I'd end up with 50 pages and just didn't have the time for something that big. I'll enjoy watching how yours progresses.

  Since a template for the site was used is it fair to ask:
  
  "Please do visit my site and offer your comments with regard to design"
  
  I'm obviously a fan of templates and think they should be used. But with only 1 page and a template being used maybe critique of content would have been a better question to ask?
  
  Or maybe I need more coffee....
  
  Content seemed good just some of the grammar needs to be fixed.
  I couldn't find duplicate content so A+ with that!!

Will do, I intend, when I do my personal emails, to send it to all the dog owners, one especially who has a lovable rogue boxer, she keeps jumping all the fences to chase racoons, coyotes anything on four legs that moves. Friend now has the great wall of china around her property. Any help to her sure would be appreciated. Keep adding to the site

The blog page needs some navigation back to the homepage, and there are some minor spelling mistakes... other than that i think it looks nice! :-)

  The only change I would make is when you go to the blog, you loss the main menu. I looked but didn't find a link back to the main page.
  
  The site is very clean and well designed. Navigation is consistent and easy but again main menu on blog page. If you don't understand how to add the menu to the blog I can help you there. On a scale of 10, I would give your site a 9.5 for the look that the average viewer sees.
  
  Now for the head code which is helpful when trying to attract the search engines. When looking at the html code you have several parts, the <html> beginning and ending of every page, the <head> tags </head> and the <body> tags </body>. The body is excellent like I said above but the head tags are missing. In the head of the page you have information that helps the search engine list your web site (SEO). The is the basic format for the head tag,
  <head>
  <title>This info appears as the link with the search engines, keep it to about 42 charactors</head>
  <meta name="keywords" content="you have about 2000 charactors here">
  <meta name="description" content="keep this about 200 charactors">
  <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
  <meta name="robots" content="index, follow" />
  <meta name="designer" content="some people add there email I use my web site name">
  </head>
  
  Those are just a couple of the head tags you should insert.

I think the navigation needs work. It is not obvious that all of this sagely advice is behind the blog link, nor was the expertise of the site owner documented or obvious. The grammatical errors really detract from your credibility as an expert and should be cleaned up as quickly as possible.

I also didn't get the purpose of the short list of some popular dogs.

The site does look clean and has some good links on it.

pretty good. But the writing was a little hard to see and the hear was almost missed, it was until i return from the bottom of the page. Size it up a bit. side was good. That is all.

  It looks kind of colorless to me,and it looks like a free temlate. The blog is a wp blog added on and navagation includes the back button.It must be in a folder on the server.../blog [not a file] I had that problem once and got around it by using an iframe I think
  
  Let me suggest that you look at ocportal Google it and click the first link then look around...especially at the "learn more" page. It looks better than what you have and it is a cms. Everything works together site/blog/caht/galleries/forum+++++. It has a lot of stuff for a site like yours...added with a click ot 2
  
  It is visually customizeable too through css and or templates. I just installed a copy the other day and it looks like something you could really use. I haven't really looked at customizing it though. I really like it
  
  why would you want to use a free template and have to edit it via ftp--what a hassle--
  
  Whatever you do think about using a cms--it makes life a lot more simple and there are no limitations on how your site looks

  Love the color scheme, and the layout, everything "just works".
  
  The site loads fast.
  
  Not sure, but when you go to blog, the header color looks different than the background color.
  
  You also have a few px of whitespace surrounding your website.

Considering your username, it's interesting you're doing a dog site.

There are a few things I would change, partly because they are my own preference but partly because they detract from your theme.

1) Text looks more normal if it's flush left, instead of justified. In case you don't know what that means, what you have now is justified, which pushes the text across the line so that each edge is perfectly aligned. This can create unnatural spaces between words. Plus it looks way too formal for a casual topic like dog care.

2) You have a few resource links on the right that do not seem to be dog related. I would keep any such links restricted to resources about dogs. I see you have two there for web design and one for flash games. If your audience is the dog owner, these are not really relevant to your offer. If you're targeting dog business owners, then the web design might be suitable.

3) I agree with the other comments about grammar. It needs some work. You might consider finding an editor or writer to take care of your content if English is not your first language.

4) I also agree about the size of your logo. You want something that jumps out at them to let visitors know what your site is about.

I see you shop the same free template sites as I do. Yeah, the header could be bigger and maybe you could plug in a subtle textured background in the CSS style file to break up the white space. Nice design overall!

I would put some more photos of dogs. The dogs on main page stay the same. Make them show random images of dogs. And not a dark dog that you cant see any features. Not crazy about the pink lady. Heh.
