I need a wordpress plug-in that will produce a gift certificate that has a unique UPC or barcode.

I'm helping friends with their spa website. One thing they need to do is sell gift certificates online. When I google for wordpress plugins for this, I see lots for ecommerce BUT these won't work.

Yes i can sell the certificate but there it is just a printout saying what amount they purchased - meaning there is nothing to prevent someone from printing it out 7 times and using all 7.

I need a wordpress plug-in that will produce a gift certificate that has a unique UPC or barcode that our staff can scan and know is real.

Any ideas??

    Hi, I am a salon & spa owner and came across the same problem. I decided to create the software myself with help from a programmer. it has been in the works since Sept. last year, as there is a complete tracking system built into the back end. I hope to have this available soon

    The barcode certainly sounds neat, but between the cost of having this software developed and the associated barcode scanner it also sounds expensive.

    Have you considered just generating a unique number (like a serial number) for each certificate? The spa staff would need to enter the number when the certificate was redeemed into a database, after which copies with the same number would be invalid.

    Just a thought!

    You can't create a UPC code with software. That number has to come from the organization that licenses the UPC codes. There is plenty of barcode printing software out there, some even free, but none will give you the UPC number. UPC codes refer to physical products, like a box of candy, not for random gift certificate numbers. You should create random numbers and just print a barcode using free software or similar. I don't think there is any wp plugin that does what you want . There is a random number generator at wordpress.org/extend that would do custom work for you.

    Google "QR Code Generator" - there are several scripts available - even a wordpress plugin. You can read a QR Code with most advanced cell phones. While most examples are URLs, they can actually encode anything (see your most recent UPS box - your entire address is encoded in one). If you already have a smart phone - you have a reader! PHP scripts are plentiful to generate.

    My thoughts are that you could use the transaction ID when they purchase the certificate. You just need a php programmer to append that value into a database table and when the person comes in with the gift certificate, the staff type in that number and then, once it is used, they'll know it.

    My thoughts are that you could get a freelancer on "getafreelancer dot com" (I still can't post links) create such a program for you for probably $200- $400.

    Numerous scripts are available in Google QR Code Generator including a wordpress plugin. Most of the latest devices such as Smartphones are capable of reading QR codes.

    I know this thread is relatively old but I have created just what you are talking about here. there is a Wordpress plugin called WordPress Printable Gift Certs that does everything you are looking for, and best of all it is free.

      it looks like a great plugin but it's only for customers in the US. Buyers must enter an address but there is only US addresses in the plugin. No option to add others or other currencies either.

      If anyone is buying gift certificates and they live outside the US they will not be able to buy.

      Hoping that this will be fixed in the near future.
