Should I get rid of paypal buttons?

Hello

I hope this is the right section for this question.

I try to make improvements to our sites when something becomes obvious.

I use a paypal shopping cart, with the typical paypal buttons.

I wonder if paypal shopping cart buttons are a turn off?

Should I take the trouble to go through every item we carry and change the code so as to view a nice anonymous shopping cart button?

The site in question is edenworkshops.com

Thank you

Richard

  • The only opinion that really matters is from people in your target market, and they make decisions with their credit cards. So, I would do an A/B split test with a few of your most popular products. Change the buttons, and test the results. Does it result in more conversions? Only then will you have an accurate answer.

    Hope this helps.

I find that the more professional and integrated your cart and payment process is, the better a site will maintain sales. I'd think that a paypal checkout wouldnt convert as well as a checkout process thats designed to match and integrate with your site.

Changing your buttons might help a little, but people might feel a bit fooled if they find paypal after they click when they were expecting something else.

I've certainly found that adding credit card merchant facility to a site can tend to increase sales by at least one third.

the paypal shopping cart would be the major turn off for people. the button would have a minor effect on things. i would look into putting a ecommerce solution on the site liek osc, zen cart, cre or any other stand alone carts so that people can buy the products right on your site and only go elsewhere to pay.

Thank you all for your replies.

You seem to think as I do, that a paypal cart is not a good idea.

I used a paypal cart because I could install it myself, with the little knowledge I had.

I guess with zen cart and the other stand alone carts that were mentioned, I would have to have a professional install it and maintain it?

      Thank you.

Have you tried Google Checkout instead of Paypal? You could try some A/B testing and see if this gives better conversion.
        Best of luck!

I have checked out zen cart.

There is yet another learning curve, but I have come to expect that, there is a users forum which would prove useful.

Has anyone anything good to say about a shopping cart called "Fat Free Cart"?

        Thank you for your input.

You should not give up Paypal. Many people know it, use it and have accounts with them.

But other people are very put off by Paypal so you should definitely add another option and this should be your own merchant account and shopping cart. Google Checkout is just another Paypal in most people's minds... another third-party option.

The experienced voice of DavidO suggests keeping the paypal cart.

But does he mean I should have an additional cart?

I see two lots of add to cart buttons, one for paypal and the other for...who ever.

Can't be right surely, have I misunderstood?

            Thank you.

I would keep the buttons if you offer it as a payment option (along with buttons for any other cards), so that it's clear to any visitors looking for that info.
