Are you using a CMS or not. I'm in the process of building a custom CMS for a client of mine and it has a blog in it. Designing it should be the easy part (well, not for me but my mind doesn't work that way)

Well the easiest way I have found is to take someone else's Wordpress template (if allowed) and replace the images with your own. You just have to pay attention to the way the images appear on the template. For instance if the header image has some of the background color to the side or bottom of it, remember to keep that or else you site could come off looking unbalanced or could totally screw up. Use either Photoshop or Gimp to edit the pictures, being sure to keep the new images the same size as the originals. Wordpress will be the best way to go for a Blog starting out.

Of course alot of templates allow you to change headers and images but you have to keep the footer or links on sidebar back to them. If you take them out, then your whole theme could break.

Personally, I use either Atahualpa which allows alot of changing but not too much style wise. Or Easy Wordpress Sales Page Templates where you get the files to use with Photoshop or Gimp to edit the headers and all.

If you need further help with editing headers and stuff just drop me a line and I'll see what I can do.

  • I will tell you if you are just getting started a really good WordPress theme to use is 'Mistique' it will allow for you to create just about any look for a site that you want by editing the colors with a build in theme settings page, uploading your own logo and/or background image and various other tweaks like full width pages, right sidebar, left sidebar etc etc. It has a built in system for managing your adds and if you pair that up with the Advertising Manager you can control google and other ad networks by automating the placement of some ads with Advertising Manager and then using 'Mystique's' built in system to only place ads in posts or pages with a special code like: [ad code=1]. This allows you extreme control over all of your ads on your site.

Theses is a nice framework to use for creating your pages as is iblogpro4 if you are doing sales sites that have videos, images etc that you want to showcase or scroll on a carousel etc. Here is a site built with iblogpro fundraising-experts.com which shows how this works in a basic setup.

Anyway, best of luck with you site, let me know if you ever require professional help with any web design or development work!

If I could over simplify ocs comment above and say, just get DW and a theme you want to play with and go to town. If you have to get an image editor, fireworks is a little more affordable and gets the job done.

When you have the above elements, ftp into the site, pull down the files and get to reading. Most themes are pretty well commented out, and nicely structured so with time it will be a breeze.

I would also suggest checking out some tuts online, there are numerous - from wp in dw videos, to creating your wp site from scratch, etc.

And invest in perhaps a toupee, hair plugs or the like when you first dive in. Just in case you end up pulling your hair out while working in the beginning.

    Best of success

To make a nice design blog, you'll need to know photoshop, xhtml, css, jquery and may be flash. If u didn't know about them, you'll only can generate a simple html design which is not eye catching like profesional does. The best way is outsource them for the design and code, after that, you'll need to take care of its content.

The fastest way is to buy ready-made Wordpress themes. They are cheap, beautiful and fast to implement. Why reinvent the wheels? Visit my website at my signature for examples.

Various softwares are available with which you can design your blog site. Wordpress has always worked well for me, It is a comprehensive and easy to use. The tools available on the free plan includes access to many models adaptation using sidebar widgets and you can also upload some of the themes on your own image to customize your banner.

depends what you want to with it. Controlling your own like a wordpress installation will allow you to be very flexible, put ads and so on. But, if you mainly just want to post, the free platforms are there are surprisingly asthetic. The other day I was looking at typepad and was impressed by how good-looking it could be, with just a few clicks of a button.
