How to make a PDF into a link?

I'm really bad at anything technical, and cannot figure out how to make my PDF into a link.

I made a free report for users who sign up for my report and newsletter through aweber, and now need to be able to actually give them the report once they sign up. I'm thinking I need to make my pdf into a link and include that link in the first email they receive from my autoresonder series.

School me on this please

Thanks,

Traci

    <a href="http://yourdomain.com/yourdownloaddirectory/yourpdffile.pdf">download pdf or other prompt text</a>

Should do it. Make sure the pdf is in your download directory. You may want to place some numbers in there to make it hard to guess!

OK, how about attaching the pdf file to the reply email. Couldn't be easier!

    Traci,

It depends on how you want the PDF to be handled by the browser.

    If you:
    • want the userto open the pdf file in their browser you link to the pdf file itself. They will then have to "save" the file from their browser to their computer.
    • If you want the user's to download the pdf and not open it in their browser you can zip the pdf up into a zip file and link to the zipped file. They will then be prompted by their browser to download the file. Once they've downloaded they can unzip the zipped file to access the pdf.
Personally, I like zipping up the pdf and forcing the download. Some people do not know how to save a pdf that opens in the browser to their computers for future use. So many will save the link to the pdf and access it via your server every time they want to open the pdf.

Aweber only allows attachments that are up to 1mb in size. So if your pdf is larger than that you can't send it in a followup email.

Adding a link to the file in an Aweber email is fairly easy. Follow this link to Aweber's Faq to see how:

I think it's a dumb idea to send huge pdf or even zip files to the innocent subscriber!
    Don't listen to such advice.

You should have a custom confirmation page in place, i.e. a page where your subscribers arrive after subscribing AND clicking the confirm link in their first email message.

On that simple HTML file/page you should have a link - as posted above - to the zipped file that you uploaded (via FTP) to your host server.

That's the proper way to do it.

You need the full Standard version of Acrobat or better, go to tools->Advanced Editing->Link tool. Draw a rectangle around the text to link and it will prompt you for link options (in-document, web URL, link colors, etc.)
