Hey guys, I just have a simple question regarding SEO on site. How do I work in the keywords to a lot of pictures? I think I get it now that the alt text, filenames and captions should be search engine friendly and descriptive.

For example, a picture of President Obama should be "President Obama XXXX XXXX" (where the x's describe the picture) not "totally not a Muslim!" even though the latter is funnier.

The problem is that I have a lot of related pictures in each page and when I try to add the text it ends up spamming the keywords like over a dozen times. Is it ok? Or will that be penalized for spamming the same words over and over?

Then Senator Barack Obama with his family XXX XXX

President Barack Obama giving his inaugural speech XXXX XXX

etc.

Is it alright?

<<note: not real examples but you get the idea, I hope>>

Remember the orginal putpose of ALT tags was to display a bit of text when images where not visible (or have been turned off).

So keep the ALT tags meaningful, pop a few keywords into it, but don't over do it..

The Search engines might not like you if you over do it..

A more powerful technique than ALT tags, is to include the keyword in your image's filename. So instead of calling it ,image001.jpg call it something like dog-training-crate-training.jpg

You will start to get traffic from Google Images and any traffic is good traffic..

    Hope this helps

    Thank you for the reply.

How many keywords is too much, though?

In the alt text - keep it short, sweet, to the point, and do not use trash words.

In the example - "President Barack Obama giving his inaugural speech XXXX XXX"

Shorten that to "president obama inaugural speech". Words like "giving" and "his" are so saturated in google, that they are going to be filtered out of the search anyway.

Any common word or phrase is going to be removed from the search phrase. So stay with targeted keywords only.

Thanks for the tips. Now I have to go and fix everything! So it would be like this?

    ex.

    filename - president-obama-inauguration.png

alt text - "President Obama Inauguration"

caption - President Barack Obama giving his inaugural speech XXXX XXX

copy - more stuff with the same words! Lol.

Ok, I'll have to be more creative and write longer copy, I guess. That way keyword density won't be too high.
