Is backing up an HTML website necessary if one already has the source files?

I have a few HTML sites hosted on Godaddy and despite people often saying that websites need to be backed up, I already have my sites saved fully on CDs, memory sticks and hardrive. Is backing up the site necessary in this case? Sorry, probably a dumb question but I need to ask anyway.
If it is necessary, how do you commonly back up HTML sites hosted on GoDaddy?

Great if you have the backup on CD. no need to take regular backup then.
for people using some CMS, they need to take regular backup as the content keeps updating.

when ever I update my site, or every month, It is a good norm to buck it up. we can't tell, you will experience the worst.

Depends. If it's a 'brochure site' that doesn't have any interaction, store comments or accumulate new data you don't need any more backups than you already have.

If there's user interaction and new data like -say- comments or a visitor's book that stores data in flat files, you'll need to back it up periodically to save any changes since the last time it was backed up.

If there's any database interaction you'll need to back up the database periodically too.
