How can a website stream live radio show/music?

I would like to get some advice on a project I am working on. I have a client that was referred to me because he wants a website. He is a radio host and has his own broadcast right now. He wants to be able to stream his live show as well as host past recordings etc on a website. He already has a large audience but wants to add the option of listening to the station online.

I create a lot of Wordpress sites for my clients. I have never come across anyone looking for this type of website up until this point. Is there anyone here that has experience creating a website to broadcast a live radio show with music as well that can suggest the best place I can start?

I know there are plug ins to stream radio stations by creating a "feed" from other sites hosting music. This is not what I need to do. I need to find a platform or software that will allow him to stream his radio show live online. It would great if I could host this on Wordpress.

If you have any information or software suggestions etc please let me know. I appreciate all the help in advance!

Thanks,
Pierre

You can create an itunes .pls live radio station, in which case a user would download a file from your website, run it in itunes, and listen to your stream.

Alternatively, you can do it in PHP (with or without flash). If this is the path you're taking ABSOLUTELY use Icecast (free and open source, of course).

Thank you I will look into that. Not really been into itunes since the old ipod stopped working a few years back so I will need to get there and see what's going on.

Supposedly, youtube is supposed to be creating this soon (it's apparently in beta). Once they do, you should be able to embed the video into any website. All theory but sounds cool.. and google would be the one to be able to do it

Hmm this sounds interesting. And I bet it would be pretty easy to operate. I will definitely be on the lookout

If your looking for radio info, I can recommend one of the best places on the Internet

    Radio Daddy

I have done tons of voice work there and just about every serious radio junkie hangs out there as well as professional radio stations too.

Has anyone heard of Broadwave? It seems to have pretty positive reviews from people but all said they has quite the challenge setting it up (read it on the software maker's forum). But it also seems like it has taken me a lot of time to figure it out but still cannot seem to even get past the port forwarding challenges.

Has anyone here successfully streamed a live broadcast using this?

        Any feedback is appreciated.
