Greetings. I have used both and Drupal as well. It depends greatly on what you plan to use them for. All have their strengths and weaknesses.

Joomla - This CMS has the best templates or themes. It is easy to use, it is supported by a large community of users and has tons of extensions, both free and paid. If you require a relatively simple website that looks professional, that does not cater for too much traffic, or online members, and works right 'out of the box' then Joomla is for you.
WordPress - This a primarily a blogging framework that also has a large community of users and extensions. WordPress themes are also quite amazing. It has a very simple Administration area with minimal options, but it very easy to use, setup and configure. If you require a simple blogging website that also looks professional, then WordPress is for you.
Drupal - This CSM is the powerhouse of all Content Management Systems. It has tons of Administration options and settings and using it you can pretty much create any type of website you want. It is supported by a large community of users and also has lots of contributor modules (Drupal for extensions). It has the steepest learning curve of all 3 frameworks and it does not have the best looking themes, though this is improving. Drupal 7 is just around the corner and it is quite simply amazing. If you require a website that can handle unlimited traffic, or online users, has all the configuration options you require and you don't mind spending time learning it, then Drupal is the way to go.

Excellent assessment. Drupal has a very steep learning curve. My advice to add is use Drupal if you have cash to invest in programming. Otherwise, Wordpress wins for the reasons mentioned.

It depends what you want to do with the site. For simple sites, WordPress is the way to go and the search engines like it.

Joomla would be the next easiest but requires more planning and takes longer to learn and setup. Once you get the concept though, it is pretty simple.

Drupal gives you a lot more flexibility, but has a much longer and complicated learning curve than either WP or Joomla because you have more options. It’s good if you need a site with a lot of customization.

I’ve used all three but all of my recent sites have been WordPress or Joomla, mainly because they had what I needed and were faster to set up.

That is my experience too. It is possible to make a normal website with WP, but it is extremely difficult but I can't think of an easier way to setup a nice blog.
WordPress=Blog.

  It is true wordpress was/is originally a blogging platform. But make no mistake about it, IT IS A CMS now. You can make some amazing sites on wordpress.
  
  That being said, these sites are made for a much smaller audience and much smaller administration. You are not going to run a huge site effectively with wordpress.
  
  I have heard great things about joomla, but my feelings are if you need small-ish go wordpress, anything else, learn Drupal and you'll never need to learn another CMS.

Do not agree at all. I'd say for a simple corporate website used as a showcase that requires more than Wordpress, use Joomla. But in most cases, Wordpress can be used for WAY more than a blog and it is MUCH easier to administrate and ad content. It is also way lighter on your ad server. Unless you need some heavy duty modules (most are crap), Wordpress is a better product. For added items like more characteristics crammed into your posts and control as well as some added functionality from Joomla's best modules, use Joomla.

Good point, I suppose I oversimplified a bit there. Truthfully I actually prefer Wordpress overall since it's so easy to create a static website with it. Just change your page setting to static instead of posts and customize with widgets. Much easier than Joomla by far.

Although not as powerful as Drupal, and is primarily designed for blogging, it can be adapted to almost any purpose, through a simple user interface ...

I would go with Wordpress, given that it's user friendly, open source & the slew of developments that is given to the freedom for programmers to create plugins.

Now, Wordpress is a domain registrar as well, expect to see some perfections in scaling out SEO features in future wordpress core updates. Additionally, expect to see more streamlined & custom admin/backend functionality.

C'mon guys. How many more WP vs Joomla threads are we gonna have here? Should be banned with Warriors forced to use the search facility to find the million and one responses on subject.

My oft-repeated input is to advise taking another road altogether and check out MODx which is truly a new generation CMS (CMF/framework really). If you are adept with xhtml and css you will love MODx.

Right. I am out of here forever. Will never again enter a WP vs Whatever thread again. Don't know how you guys (and gals?) find so much free time to discuss these things. Got to get on and make some money.

I have used them all and my vote is for Joomla because that is all I use and a self proclaimed Joomla expert. Joomla is great for blogs also. I have made many blog style site on the Joomla platform.

Wordpress hands down. I've used Wordpress for the past 4+ years to manage all of my websites because its A) easy to use B) simple to customize C) user friendly D) trustworthy.

Sorry for the bias, but I love Wordpress. As a programmer/designer/webmaster back in the day, Wordpress made it that much easier for me and I've continued to use it.

I originally started with joomla, but Im more into wp now. Depends what you need, as said above, wp is blogging platform, and if you need a more advanced site, joomla is for you. WP is easier to manage, cause its more simple, and can be used for building even portals. Its easier and faster to do all in wp in my opinion, but joomla has some other stuff, and depends what you need, like and preffer.

WordPress is my vote. Although I mainly use Dreamweaver to design original sites, or I use a membership site script. I created an epic marketing community site once with Joomla although the 3rd party apps crashed and the site imploded and became unoperational. So never used Joomla since

WordPress is simply and has cool plugins and templates..

I also put my vote in for Wordpress. I get a full body shiver when I think of Joomla, Drupal or any other blogging platform. I have clients who use non-wordpress platforms and it's always a pain.

WordPress is an excellent CMS, blogging and publication of your brain when it comes to work and consideration. Joomla Joomla! Another open source CMS, to help people with little to no coding is designed to create complex websites.

This is the best model for CMS or a theme. It is easy to use, is supported by a large community of users and offers many extensions, both free and paid. Next Joomla easier, but requires more planning and may take longer to learn to be established. Once the concept of law is very simple.

IMO, wordpress. It's good in SEO, also provide with so many plugin. I think WP with its plugin can provide some services/features as good as Joomla.

I think it really just depends on the purpose of your website and also on your knowledge of web development and design. For me Wordpress is the easiest to use; i use it for blogging and uploading pictures.

I've used Wordpress extensively and now build all of my sites, whether blog or not using it. I tried building a social network using Joomla as the framework and found it to be far less intuitive to work with. Truthfully, both are completely different animals and it really depends on your intended outcome. I've really become a believer in Wordpress however. If you choose to go this route, I think it's well worth the $50 extra to buy the Thesis theme for it as it is highly adaptable and makes it easy for you to have control over virtually every aspect of your design.

It depends on the user,what he wants..if he is in need of website then he has to opt for joomla,which is cost effective and wordpress saves lot of time because ,if the user is in need of blogs, then he can create his blog on his own within 15 minutes,.Not only blogs can be created using wordpress but we can do websites,etc ..Joomla is the best cms of all,it is user friendly and any non technical user can administer joomla....

Although WP has a lot of great plugins I personally use if for sites I don't plan to expand much once they launch.

I consider WP a blog platform foremost. Certainly with the right extensions and tweaks you can create nice static sites too but WP was never really designed for that and i find using it for non-blog sites always takes more work than it should.

I probably don't approach website creation very professionally but generally I prefer Joomla because, after a few weeks of launching the site I always think of some new feature I want to add and I can pretty-much always find a component in Joomla that does what i need.

Joomla definitely has a steeper learning curve though and some of the backend features still frustrate me but, now I'm very experienced with it and can knock up a feature-rich Joomla website in a few hours.

Wordpress is very simple and easy platform and tasks are extremely easy to accomplish. You can also find that WordPress is very SEO friendly and can become a very effective CMS tool, not just a blogging platform, if you make a few adjustments to it.

I have used Wordpress alot and feel very comfortable with it, but I am considering using Joomla for a new article submission website and wondering if anyone has had any experience using Joomla and wordpress and what would be the best one in your opinion to use.

I am comfortable with customizing Wordpress for more than blogging, have done so many times, but am afraid it may not be the best CMS for and article submission site - It could be done with Wordpress - but that doesn't make it the best...

Is it worth learning how to use something totally new to me (Joomla) or going with what I already know although it may not be the best thing....

Any experience from anyone who has used both Joomla and Wordpress is appreciated.

I used both, for a simple website (eg. 5 pages with 1 nav bar) I use WP,
but for more complicated web (eg. user login, shopping cart, many sub-articles) I'll used Joomla.

I love to use WordPress, I find that not only the themes but the ease of use and the end results give me the one two punch that I look for. There is a reason why so many people use it and it is not because of the me-too factor. Give it a go and you will see for yourself. You have nothing to lose so dive right in.

For me its Joomla all the way even for simple sites. The amount of customization you can do is endless to the extent that you can purchase a template, customize it and you'll end up with a world class website that looks completely original. But the biggest reason I stick to Joomla is that you get future proofing. I've created Word Press websites for clients in the past who later on ask for additional functionality and quickly hit a brick wall. If you want a solid foundation, stick with Joomla.

Both cms have their pros and cons, I use both.
WP is much more easy to maintain.
Both can be transformed in unique shops, portals, or forums.
I will suggest WP for just blog.
I will suggest Joomla for firm site.

I start CMS from wordpress and WP is very good to learn php and CMS for begineer, but after start working with joomla it come in mind that Joomla is father of wordpress. You will get lots of new things when you start work in joomla. Joomla is much more complicated.

It depends, for a blog Wordpress hands down. For a bigger website where more customized things need to happen (billing, social networking, scheduling, business directories, etc) I would go with Joomla 1.5 or 1.6

Hello good question. Its totally depend on your website . If you want to make blog or static or non-business website no then I prefer wordpress for you. I you want to make ecommerce website. Then use Joomla CMS. Because Joomla have strong ecommerce features. Hope you will enjoy it.
