Multiple Wordpress - Subdomains - Easy Management ???

Someone, could you please point me to the following solution:
What I want to do is get a Domain.
Then I want to create a bunch of Subdomains related to the main domain but different niches.
Then I want to install Wordpress, but from my memory there is a solution either FREE, or paid, to instal wordpress VERY easily, and have ALL the Plugins already there, and all the themes already there and primary customization all setup.
So when I create a subdomain, I just click to install with all the settings, plugins etc... and all I have to do is change the content.

Anyone know what solution this is?

  • I haven't seen the all-inclusive solution you mentioned. The best I can come up with is using the new WP 3.0.x version, which will allow you to do the initial setup one time, then do pretty much one-button set up for the new blogs below the main.

    Warrior Istvan Horvath sells a video tutorial set that goes through the setup very methodically. He had a WSO running, not sure if it's still open.

  • You are most likely thinking of either Wordpress multisite or WP Twin.
  • Maybe you can buy a domain (general name) from BlueHost. Then use wordpress to create a blog for each niche.

    E.g. yourdomain.com/WeightLoss for weight loss niche, yourdomain.com/DogTraining for Dog Training niche.

    You can then create a home page that can link all the niches.
  • New Blog Template from wpmudev.org should do what you want! Check under New Blog Template » description - WordPress Plugins and Themes, with added BuddyPress and Multisite Goodness – WPMU DEV This is not free, you have to subscribe to and pay for this!

    Could also just use stanadard way of moving wordpress with say ftp. Copy database and WP folders, ftp WP folders and files to each new subdomain, and make new database for each new subdomain. Then reset the wordpress urls under General Settings. full details of moving WP:

    There are also a number of Wordpress backup plugins which copy your database and folders, and which, when installed in a new wp site can import files, folders and database. Try these:

    WordPress › BackWPup « WordPress Plugins

  • Think you might be overcomlicating the problem?
    Before I bought WPMage (which will do exactly what you want in a few clicks)
    I used to set up WP sites using fantastico, then just use my cpanel File Manager to copy all the themes and plugins I wanted onto all the domains - takes seconds.
    You will still have to configure the plugins - but I have found that is actually a useful check that I have each site set up and looking the way it should.
    Rarely need two sites identical anyway
